AI Engineer - Up to £90,000 base salary + benefits. Once a week in Shoreditch with flexible working
I'm working with an Education Technology (EdTech) business that has raised millions in funding and is looking to add an AI Engineer to lead a two-year R&D project.
This is a hands-on role where you'll be building prototypes, running experiments and helping shape how AI is integrated into the product. You'll work closely with the CTO and Tech Leads, giving you the support to focus on the research and experimental side while still having strong engineering backing around you.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The heart of the project is creating emotionally reactive virtual characters that can understand how a learner is communicating and respond naturally in real time.
You'll be working with clean, well-tested Python (FastAPI), building reliable AI pipelines and working with LLMs, including prompt engineering and fine-tuning models.
They're looking for someone who understands machine learning from a practical perspective. Someone who enjoys building prototypes, testing ideas and then figuring out how to turn successful experiments into product features.

Experience with speech and audio processing, computer vision, motion tracking or real-time interactive systems would be beneficial. Exposure to areas such as 3D engines, game engines, VR or similar environments would also be a positive.
This role would suit someone who enjoys solving difficult problems, experimenting with emerging AI technologies and working on something genuinely different from the majority of AI roles currently on the market.
