About The Role
Envitia is seeking a talented AI Engineer to join its expanding AI team within the Consulting division. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying scalable, responsible AI and machine learning solutions tailored for UK public sector clients across defense, government, security, and intelligence sectors. Your work will be instrumental in transforming complex data into trusted insights, operational tools, and strategic advantages, supporting clients in unlocking the full potential of their data assets.
This position offers a hands-on delivery experience, engaging with diverse client projects ranging from predictive analytics and machine learning to cutting-edge Generative AI applications. You will develop production-ready AI solutions, contribute to advancing Envitia’s MLOps capabilities, and help craft innovative proof-of-concept demonstrations and client proposals that showcase the company's AI expertise.

Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, you will partner with data engineers, software developers, analysts, visualization specialists, and consultants, supported by a growing AI Community of Practice. Your role involves engaging with clients to identify AI opportunities, translating operational challenges into practical technical solutions, and ensuring that all solutions adhere to responsible AI principles and security standards.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in AI and machine learning, with practical experience in developing, training, and deploying models. A relevant degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, or related fields is preferred, along with demonstrated hands-on expertise in Python programming and core ML/AI libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch. Experience deploying AI solutions within cloud environments, particularly Microsoft Azure, is essential, including familiarity with Azure AI/ML, Azure AI Foundry, and Azure OpenAI services.
Additional skills include working knowledge of Generative AI and large language models, prompt engineering, and MLOps practices for model deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management. Candidates should have strong data engineering skills across structured and unstructured data sources, with an understanding of responsible AI, data governance, and security protocols. Excellent communication skills are vital for articulating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborating effectively within teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, train, and deploy machine learning and AI models, including predictive analytics, natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, and Generative AI solutions, aligned with client goals and operational needs.
- Build scalable, reusable AI products, accelerators, and components that can be efficiently deployed across multiple client projects, ensuring consistency and rapid delivery.
- Develop and integrate Generative AI and large language model capabilities using platforms such as Azure AI Foundry and Azure OpenAI, ensuring all solutions are secure, ethical, and aligned with client requirements.
- Implement and continuously improve MLOps practices, including model deployment, monitoring, governance, retraining, and lifecycle management to ensure reliable and maintainable AI systems in production environments.
- Engineer features, datasets, and data pipelines from both structured and unstructured sources, working closely with data engineers and analysts to provide actionable insights.
- Apply responsible AI principles throughout the development lifecycle, ensuring fairness, transparency, explainability, security, and compliance.
- Collaborate with consultants, technical specialists, and client stakeholders to understand operational challenges and translate them into effective AI solutions that deliver tangible value.
- Contribute to technical proposals, demonstrations, proof-of-concept projects, and thought leadership activities that highlight Envitia’s AI capabilities and support business development.
- Stay abreast of emerging AI technologies, frameworks, and best practices to continuously enhance Envitia’s offerings and technical expertise.
- Support knowledge sharing, mentorship, and capability development within the AI team, wider consulting practice, and AI Community of Practice.
