Staff Engineer

Salary: £100,000 – £120,000
Location: London / Hybrid / Remote-first considered
Type: Permanent

About the Company

Our client is building an AI-native platform for hospitality and real estate operations. The product combines agentic AI and conversational AI to transform guest experience, hotel operations, personalisation, and upselling at scale. The platform enables guests to interact through channels such as WhatsApp, phone, voice, and chat, while helping hotel teams automate guest requests, housekeeping, maintenance, service workflows, and operational planning.

The platform brings together four core areas: AI Guest Experience, AI Operations & Planning, AI Personalisation & Upselling, and an AI Customer Data Platform, centralising guest profiles, first-party data, loyalty insights, and operational workflows.

This is a high-impact opportunity to join an ambitious, early-stage AI business with strong commercial traction and an experienced founding team.

The Role

Our client is looking for a Staff Engineer to help shape, scale, and strengthen its AI-native platform.

This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who can operate across architecture, hands-on engineering, technical strategy, and delivery. You'll work closely with the CTO, Product, AI, Customer Success, and Commercial teams to build systems that are robust enough for enterprise customers while maintaining the agility of a fast-moving start-up.

You will play a key role in developing the core platform across conversational AI, agent workflows, communication channels, integrations, operational dashboards, analytics, and customer data infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical architecture and delivery of scalable AI-native systems across guest experience, operations, personalisation, upselling, and customer data.
  • Design and build production-grade services using TypeScript, Node.js, React/Next.js, APIs, serverless infrastructure, cloud services, and data integrations.
  • Develop agentic AI workflows capable of understanding user intent, automating responses, routing operational tasks, and supporting users in real time.
  • Build and enhance integrations with platforms such as communication providers, voice and telephony platforms, WhatsApp/Meta, Twilio, OpenAI, Vapi, Hasura, and other third-party enterprise systems.
  • Own complex technical challenges relating to scalability, reliability, security, observability, latency, data integrity, and production support.
  • Establish engineering standards covering architecture, testing, code quality, CI/CD, monitoring, documentation, and secure development.
  • Partner with Product and Commercial teams to translate customer challenges into practical, commercially valuable technical solutions.
  • Support the evolution of dashboards, workflow tools, analytics, task routing, SLA management, and customer onboarding experiences.
  • Mentor engineers and help build a high-performing engineering culture as the team grows.
  • Make pragmatic technical decisions that balance speed, quality, scalability, and commercial impact.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong experience as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Lead Engineer, Senior Engineer, Software Architect, or another senior hands-on technical role.
  • Deep full-stack engineering expertise, ideally across TypeScript, Node.js, React, Next.js, and modern API design.
  • Strong cloud experience, preferably AWS, including serverless architecture, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and production deployment.
  • Experience designing and scaling distributed systems, workflow engines, customer-facing platforms, SaaS products, or operational tooling.
  • Strong understanding of AI-enabled product development, including LLM integrations, agentic workflows, LLMOps, evaluation, guardrails, prompt orchestration, privacy, and governance.
  • Experience integrating third-party APIs and enterprise platforms where reliability, resilience, and data quality are critical.
  • A strong product mindset with the ability to solve customer problems rather than simply delivering technical features.
  • Comfortable operating within a start-up or scale-up environment where priorities evolve quickly and ownership is expected.
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including founders, customers, investors, and enterprise clients.
  • A bias towards action, balanced with the engineering discipline required to build scalable, maintainable platforms.
