AI Engineering Manager
AI / ML Engineering Manager | Listed UK Fintech | London Hybrid | Up to £120k
A listed UK fintech is seeking a bold and impactful AI/ML Engineering Manager to drive their transformation into an AI-native organisation. This is a hybrid role (London-based, two days in office) with responsibilities spanning team leadership, AI engineering, and digital conscious execution, reporting directly to the Director of AI/ML and partnering closely with Individual Contributors (ICs), Technical Leads, and domain teams.

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced AI Engineering Manager to oversee a high-performing team of Data Scientists and AI Engineers, ensuring seamless integration from prototyping through to production. You will play a pivotal role in actively enabling AI adoption, fostering a culture of rigor, innovation, and reliability in a fast-growing, publicly traded company.
The role combines elements of people leadership, technical oversight, and functional delivery, with clear progression pathways to senior executive levels for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
Team Governance & Leadership
- Lead, mentor and develop an interdisciplinary team of Data Scientists and AI Engineers from mid- to senior levels
- Foster a high-trust culture with robust career growth, performance reviews, and technical development programs
- Ensure team alignment with business priorities while maintaining operational discipline in AI/ML delivery
AI Lifecycle Ownership
- Drive the adoption of responsible AI best practices, supporting teams in evaluating uplifts in model performance vs. production trade-offs
- Balance speed-to-insight vs. stability, ensuring models are efficiently transitioned from experimentation to production
- Oversee agentic AI system development, including agent design, risks, and long-term vision
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Bridge technical, data, and domain teams while keeping Stakeholders informed, tackling operational constraints proactively
- Partner with Technical Leads, Infrastructure, and DevOps to create an optimal environment for team success
- Ensure high reliability of production AI systems and workshop challenge-breaking problems critically

- People leadership: Prior proven experience managing Data Science or AI/ML Engineering teams (Engineering Manager, Head of Data Science roles desired)
- Technical credibility: Substantial expertise to converse seamlessly with data scientists and engineers, including Python fluency, AWS experience, and a familiarity with modern LLM frameworks
- Model lifecycle expertise: Direct, end-to-end accountability over AI/ML delivery from laboratory experimentation to enterprise production
- Psychological safety champion: Focus on people-first culture, ensuring collaboration, growth mindset, and balanced performance metrics

Compensation
- £80-120k base, plus performance bonus
