AI Lead Engineering Practices
Sheffield (or Birmingham) - Hybrid
£650 per day - inside IR35
6 month initial contract - excellent potential for longevity
We're supporting a major global financial services organisation who are looking to appoint an AI Lead to join their Global Engineering Practices team within the Chief Technology Office (CTO).
This is not a traditional AI engineering role focused on building AI products. Instead, you'll play a leading role in helping a large global engineering organisation adopt AI at scale. Working closely with senior engineering leaders, you'll help shape AI strategy, drive organisational adoption and improve engineering effectiveness by embedding AI into the way engineering teams work.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical credibility with experience influencing engineering organisations, driving change and helping engineers embrace new ways of working.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead AI adoption initiatives across a large global engineering organisation.
- Work alongside senior engineering leaders to define and implement the Engineering Practices AI strategy.
- Identify opportunities where AI can improve engineering productivity, developer experience and engineering effectiveness.
- Develop practical AI capabilities, integrations and tooling that support software engineering teams.
- Define engineering standards and best practices for the effective and responsible use of AI.
- Drive organisational adoption of AI, helping engineering teams understand, embrace and effectively utilise AI-enabled ways of working.
- Build and support an internal AI Community of Practice, encouraging knowledge sharing and collaboration.
- Produce technical guidance, playbooks, demonstrations and reference implementations.
- Deliver workshops, showcases and engagement sessions to support AI adoption across engineering teams.
- Work closely with Architecture, Security and Risk teams to ensure AI initiatives align with organisational standards.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
