As a Senior Associate, Applied AI/ML Engineer in the Applied AI/ML team, you will help customers build, deploy, and operate AI/ML models and agentic systems in a safe, scalable way.

About The Role
The Senior Associate, Applied AI/ML Engineer role is a pivotal position within the Applied AI/ML team at J.P. Morgan. In this capacity, you will work closely with clients and internal teams to develop, deploy, and manage advanced AI/ML models and agentic systems. Your primary responsibility will be to facilitate the implementation of scalable, secure, and reliable AI solutions that address complex business challenges. You will serve as a technical expert in AI/ML frameworks, ensuring best practices are followed across the development lifecycle.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience supporting AI/ML product delivery, including model and agent workflows. You should have a strong background in observability platforms, evaluation, experimentation, and tracing for AI/ML or large language model (LLM) systems. Experience with distributed data processing at scale using tools like Ray, Spark, or similar frameworks is essential. You must demonstrate solid software engineering skills, including writing clean, maintainable code, understanding testing methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and API/service development.
Excellent communication skills are vital, as you will need to effectively translate technical requirements into actionable solutions. A proactive attitude, strong problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment are also critical for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients in building and deploying AI/ML models and agent systems across multiple frameworks, providing guidance on selection, integration, troubleshooting, and best practices.
- Implement and operate AI/ML observability tools, including experimentation management, tracing, and monitoring, to enhance the quality and reliability of AI systems.
- Design, develop, and optimize large-scale data processing pipelines and feature workflows utilizing distributed compute technologies such as Ray, Spark, or similar.
- Develop AI/ML systems with the support of coding assistants, ensuring engineering efficiency while adhering to quality standards.
- Ensure secure deployment and controlled access to AI/ML services by applying secure-by-design practices, access controls, and environment separation aligned with firm guidelines for responsible AI use.
- Create comprehensive technical documentation and runbooks to facilitate supportability, operational efficiency, and repeatable delivery processes.
