About us

At Diligent, we are on a mission to help fintechs and banks automate and enhance Anti-Money Laundering operations with AI agents. Leading banks and payment companies use us to automate risk investigations they run when onboarding and monitoring business customers in Europe, Middle East, USA and Asia.

Our founders have built fraud and credit risk models protecting billions in transactions at Europe’s top fintechs, and we’re taking that experience to revolutionize how financial institutions verify the legitimacy of businesses. With deep expertise in AI-driven risk assessment, we turn unstructured data into powerful insights, helping our customers automate manual reviews, strengthen fraud detection, and improve the onboarding experience for legitimate businesses.

We already work with leading fintech unicorns and banks, are growing fast and we’re looking for ambitious problem-solvers who are excited about using AI to tackle financial crime at a global scale. If you're passionate about making a real impact in the fight against fraud, we’d love to have you on our team! 🚀

The role

We are hiring an AI Product Engineer to join our core product engineering team. This is a product-building role, not just an engineering role.

You will work across the full stack to design, build, and ship AI products used by financial crime and risk teams. You will work directly with customers, understand messy operational workflows, turn ambiguous problems into product ideas, and then build those ideas into production.

The best people for this role have built before. Maybe you built:

  • A product
  • A side project
  • A startup
  • An internal tool
  • An open-source project
  • A workflow automation
  • Something customers or users actually used

We care less about perfect credentials and more about whether you have the instinct to create, ship, learn, and improve.

You should enjoy the full journey:

  • Discovering the problem
  • Shaping the product
  • Writing the code
  • Shipping the feature
  • Seeing how users react
  • Iterating until it works

You will be part of the early team, so the bar for ownership is high. We want people who are self-standing, high-agency, and comfortable moving through ambiguity without waiting for someone else to create the perfect plan.

What you will work on

You will help us build the core platform that powers Diligent’s AI agents. This includes:

  • Turning complex financial crime workflows into intuitive product experiences
  • Building LLM-powered systems that can reason over documents, websites, policies, alerts, and customer data
  • Designing product infrastructure that allows AI agents to use tools, access data sources, and execute workflows reliably
  • Working directly with customers to understand how risk and compliance teams operate
  • Shipping integrations with CRMs, case management systems, screening tools, registries, and internal databases
  • Improving the quality, reliability, and explainability of AI decisions
  • Building new zero-to-one product initiatives from scratch
  • Helping shape product direction alongside the founders and the rest of the team

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You will be expected to think like a builder:

  • What is the simplest thing we can ship?
  • What will create the most value for the customer?
  • What is the fastest path to learning?
  • What should we automate?
  • What should we leave manual for now?
  • What does the user actually need, not just what they asked for?

What we expect

Within days, you will:

  • Ship your first code
  • Start understanding how our customers work and what their pain points are
  • Translate novel LLM capabilities into clear, useful, and performant user experiences
  • Work with the team to improve the infrastructure, data sources, and tools that power our AI agents
  • Operate with a “you build it, you run it” mindset

We care about ownership after something ships, not just getting code merged.

Within weeks, you will:

  • Own meaningful product and engineering work end to end
  • Join customer calls and understand requirements directly
  • Turn customer conversations into shipped product
  • Contribute to product decisions, not just implementation
  • Ask good questions, challenge assumptions, and identify the highest-leverage opportunities
  • Help bring structure to non-deterministic AI outputs
  • Improve reliability, explainability, and usability in real-world regulated environments
  • Work closely with the CEO, CTO, and founding team to mature our engineering and product practices

Within months, you will:

  • Own major areas of the product
  • Tackle technical and non-technical scaling problems as we grow
  • Navigate ambiguity with confidence when goals are fuzzy or inputs are incomplete
  • Help us hire, onboard, and raise the bar for future teammates
  • Play a meaningful role in shaping what Diligent becomes

What we are looking for

Must-have

  • 1+ years of professional software engineering experience in a high-caliber environment, such as a VC-backed startup, scaleup, big tech company, or strong engineering team OR
  • Impressive evidence that you can build independently, such as a product, side project, open-source project, startup, internal tool, or business you created yourself

You should also have:

  • Experience building LLM-powered products or workflows
  • Strong full-stack ability, from backend systems and database design to frontend product implementation
  • A track record of shipping quickly, learning from users, and improving the product based on feedback
  • Strong product judgment and user empathy
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Comfort with ambiguity, speed, and changing priorities
  • High ownership. When something is yours, you drive it to completion

Bonus

  • Experience in fintech, compliance, risk, fraud, or another regulated industry
  • Experience building scalable AWS architectures
  • Experience with agentic systems, workflow automation, document intelligence, or structured outputs from LLMs
  • Experience building products used by enterprise customers
  • Founder, early employee, or side-project builder experience

Our tech stack

  • Node.js / TypeScript
  • Next.js
  • Python
  • AWS SAM
  • LLMs, agent frameworks, and internal evaluation systems

We care more about strong engineering fundamentals and product taste than exact stack overlap.

Who thrives here

  • Extremely Curious: We think curious people run the world. We love those who have an insatiable hunger for more knowledge…about the customer problems, domain knowledge, technical innovations or new ways to approaches to challenges.
  • Hungry and driven: We are an early stage startup…this is hard and intense work that requires you to be ready to move fast, take bets and find solutions to problems that haven’t really been solved before. It will be intense but extremely rewarding
  • A true owner: We don’t expect you to be just an employee, you will be part of the founding team. A strong sense of ownership and autonomy is essential - you’ll take full responsibility for your projects from start to finish and you’ll be expected to deal with ambiguity getting things done without overcomplicating solutions.
  • Humble: You listen actively, embrace feedback and foster a collaborative environment where ideas are shared openly. You are confident in your expertise while recognising the value of learning from others and adapting to change.

Who this may not be right for

This role is probably not right if you want:

  • Highly defined tickets
  • a 9-to-5 rhythm
  • Long planning cycles
  • A narrow engineering scope
  • To stay far away from customers
  • Someone else to always tell you exactly what to do next

We are looking for someone who wants to build the company with us, not just write code inside it.

Compensation

  • Base salary: ÂŁ70k to ÂŁ110k
  • Equity: 0.2% to 0.4%
  • Compensation is negotiable depending on experience and salary vs equity preference.

Interview process

We are seeking to make our interview as experiential as possible in order for both sides to get the most signal on what it would be like to work together.

  • Initial application (<2 mins): Submit your LinkedIn (or CV) in the application link below
  • CTO meet-and-greet (30 mins): Introductory call with Ahmed — get to know each other a little
  • Technical interview - architecture design (60 mins): Deep dive interview with Ahmed focusing on problem solving, coding proficiency, systems design and architecture.
  • Half/one day compensated office trial: Come to our office, let's work together on a mini project for one day - so you'll meet the team and test how our work together
  • References and offer: Ideally over dinner!
