Research Intern – Artificial Intelligence (PhD Internship)

Location: Cambridge, UK
Duration: 6-month Internship (Full-time)
Hybrid Policy: 3 days onsite / 2 days working from home weekly

What You'll Work On

As a Research Intern, you'll join one of our specialist research labs and work alongside experienced researchers and engineers on ambitious AI projects.

Machine Learning & Data Intelligence Lab

Throughout your internship, you'll be supported by a dedicated senior mentor who will help guide your research, publications, and professional development.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct novel research that advances the state of the art in AI.
  • Design and implement innovative machine learning algorithms.
  • Publish research at leading conferences including NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, AAAI, ACL, EMNLP, and Interspeech.
  • Develop high-quality, well-documented code to support reproducible research and open-source contributions.
  • Contribute to patent generation and technology transfer into future Samsung products.

What We're Looking For

You'll ideally be:

  • Currently studying for (or recently completing) a PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Experienced with Python and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
  • Comfortable with core computer science concepts including algorithms, optimisation, and distributed computing.
  • An active researcher with at least one first-author publication at a leading AI conference or journal.
  • Curious, collaborative, and excited to tackle challenging research problems.

Experience in foundation models, multimodal AI, diffusion models, distributed GPU training, on-device AI, or software engineering is an advantage but not essential.
