AI Technology Programme Lead
About the Role
The AA is more than roadside assistance. For over a century, we’ve evolved to deliver a wide range of products and services to millions of customers, from roadside help to home and motor insurance, and the latest in driving technologies.
Location: London (hybrid: 3 office days per week) Type: Permanent, full-time Benefits: Annual bonus, cash-car allowance, private medical insurance
As our AI Technology Programme Lead, you’ll play a critical role in shaping how AI is delivered at scale within one of the UK’s most recognisable brands, contributing to our expansion, diversification, and modernisation.
You won’t be a hands-on AI engineer or a traditional project manager—this is about technology programme leadership in fast-paced, early-stage environments. You’ll drive clarity, pace, and governance while fostering innovation.
The Opportunity
You’ll oversee the AI Centre of Excellence, establishing governance, delivery discipline, and an operating rhythm to scale AI adoption across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the effective operation of the AI Centre of Excellence by defining governance, rhythms, controls, and delivery disciplines to drive AI maturity.
- Manage a portfolio of AI and data initiatives, ensuring visibility into progress, risks, dependencies, funding, resources, and business value.
- Guide selected AI initiatives through their lifecycle—from assessment and experimentation to deployment, adoption, and measurable outcomes.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders, technical teams, and business areas to prioritise demand, unblock challenges, and align investments toward achievable results.
- Develop clear, compelling portfolio reporting and governance materials that simplify complex AI activity for decision-making.
- Shape and embed practical delivery frameworks across the AI Centre to enhance operational excellence.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
