AI/Machine Learning Project Manager (Consultant)

Job Title: Project Manager – AI and Machine Learning (Consultant) Location: Hybrid – onsite in Oxford area 3 days per week, with travel to London Duration: 18 months FTC Start: ASAP Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 (depending on experience)

Due to rapid growth with an exciting new customer, you will join our team as Project Manager where you will play a pivotal role in the end to end delivery of a portfolio of AI and Machine Learning projects.

Role:

The Project Manager is responsible for end-to-end delivery of one or more AI and Machine Learning projects within a broader programme, ensuring outcomes are delivered on time, to scope, within budget and to quality

Working closely with the Programme Manager to manage dependencies, risks, and stakeholder expectations, the role is delivery‑focused and hands‑on, requiring strong planning, execution, governance and stakeholder management skills in complex client environments.

Accountabilities of the role will include:

Delivery & execution Own the day‑to‑day management and delivery of assigned projects within the programme Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, milestones, RAID logs and delivery artefacts Ensure project deliverables align to programme objectives and benefits Track progress and proactively manage risks, issues and dependencies, escalating appropriately to the Programme Manager Drive delivery through clear actions, ownership and follow‑up

Governance & reporting Produce accurate and timely status reporting (progress, risks, financials, milestones) Support programme‑level governance forums with clear, evidence‑based updates Ensure agreed delivery standards, controls and ways of working are followed Maintain project documentation to support handover and sustainability

Stakeholder & client engagement Build and maintain strong working relationships with client stakeholders, suppliers and internal Pace teams Facilitate workshops, meetings and working sessions to progress delivery Communicate clearly, transparently and confidently, managing expectations at all levels Act as a trusted delivery partner to the client while representing Pace professionally

Collaboration with the Programme Manager Work closely with the Programme Manager to: Align project delivery to programme priorities Manage inter‑project dependencies Contribute to programme‑level planning and decision‑making Escalate risks and issues early with clear options and recommendations

Essential skills and experience:

Proven experience delivering complex AI and Machine Learning projects within larger programmes Strong planning, organisation and delivery discipline Experience in managing multiple stakeholders with differing priorities Comfortable working in ambiguous or changing environments Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong problem‑solving mindset with a focus on outcomes Ability to anticipate delivery risks early and intervene decisively to protect outcomes, momentum and stakeholder confidence Demonstrable experience of effective project governance and commercial awareness

Able to impress and build trust with the customer at every interaction, acting as a visible and credible representative of Pace from day one Confident operating as the face of delivery, including in challenging conversations, escalations and assurance settings Demonstrates strong alignment to Pace values, role‑modelling openness, ownership, collaboration and constructive challenge in all client engagements Sets the tone for a high‑performing, inclusive and outcomes‑focused delivery culture within the client environment Highly credible, composed and resilient; able to perform under pressure and maintain confidence in uncertain or fluid contexts Pragmatic and commercially aware, with a strong bias towards delivery and results rather than process for its own sake Excellent communicator, able to translate complex project progress into clear, decision‑ready messages for senior, non‑technical audiences
