The advent of O-RAN (Open Radio Access Network) marks a significant shift in the mobile communication industry towards an open, virtualized, and disaggregated architecture. A key enabler of this paradigm shift is the Radio Access Network (RAN) Intelligent Controller (RIC), a software-defined component designed to optimize RAN operations. The disaggregation of the RAN, facilitated by open and standardized interfaces, allows multivendor interoperability and opens the door for third-party applications (xApps, rApps) that can automate and optimize network operations at scale. The RIC presents a significant advancement beyond traditional Self-Organizing Networks (SON) by providing enhanced flexibility, programmability, and intelligence.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

However, testing and developing AI/ML algorithms for such complex networks is challenging and costly within traditional lab environments. Thus, at Keysight we are evolving our RAN digital twin and emulation platforms to facilitate and speed up this algorithmic development.

Responsibilities

You will be working with an active team of applied researchers looking at O-RAN digital twins to model 5G and future 6G RAN functions. The focus of the work will be on prioritised O-RAN use cases where a need for AI/ML algorithms to facilitate near real time optimisations has been identified. You will develop such algorithms and validate with our digital twins or emulation platforms.

You will have access to our 6G state-of-the-art laboratory with equipment, simulators, emulators, and digital twin platforms to carry out experimentation and development.
