Company Description
South Yorkshire Mechanical Services (SYMS) – Building Services Engineers – is based in Sheffield and delivers projects locally and across the UK. The company has extensive experience across sectors including warehouses, office buildings, healthcare facilities, and other commercial environments. SYMS combines the technical capability and resources of a large organization with the responsive service and personal approach of a smaller firm. Team members work on a variety of building services projects, offering opportunities to develop broad technical expertise and sector-specific knowledge.
Role Description
The Air Conditioning Engineer role is a full-time, on-site position located in the Greater Sheffield Area. The engineer will install, commission, maintain, and repair air conditioning and HVAC systems in commercial, industrial, and healthcare settings. Day-to-day tasks include:

The role involves working closely with building services and facilities teams, preparing job reports, maintaining documentation, and adhering to relevant health and safety and industry standards. The engineer will also support project delivery, attend site visits, and provide technical advice to clients and colleagues as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong HVAC skills, including installation, maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair of air conditioning systems.
- Experience in Building Services engineering, with knowledge of mechanical systems within commercial and industrial properties.
- Background in Building Maintenance and Maintenance & Repair, including planned preventive maintenance and reactive works.
- Understanding of Facility Management (FM) practices, including service scheduling, documentation, and compliance with regulations.
- Relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, refrigeration, or HVAC (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
- F-Gas certification and familiarity with current environmental, safety, and building regulations related to HVAC systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications, with strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Effective communication skills, professional attitude on client sites, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel to sites in the Greater Sheffield Area and, when required, across the country.
