Rate: Up to £550/day IR35 status: Inside IR35 Location: Hybrid working:
- 2 days per week on site at General Dynamics, Merthyr Tydfil
- 1 day per week on site at MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol
- 2 days per week working from home

Overview
Our customer, a large defence organisation, is seeking an experienced Safety Engineer to support the Design Change Management function within the AJAX Programme Production Pillar.
Team Context
The AJAX Programme sits within the National Armaments Director Group (NAD).
Delivered on behalf of DG Material under the purview of Director Land Environment as part of the Land Combat Vehicles Portfolio.
The AJAX team comprises several pillars representing different stages of the project lifecycle.
The Production Pillar is responsible for assurance and acceptance activities for all vehicles manufactured by the prime contractor, General Dynamics.
The team is primarily based at the prime contractor’s site and comprises civilian and Army personnel led by a Lieutenant Colonel.
This role provides safety engineering support focused on managing concessions, coordinating with the safety function and supporting design modifications. The successful candidate will act as deputy to the Concessions Engineer, ensuring continuity of safety processes and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate safety-related concessions
- Deliverable: Ensure all requests are properly assessed, documented and approved in line with safety standards and project requirements.
- Collaborate with the safety function
- Deliverable: Ensure concessions align with overall safety policies and risk management strategies.
- Support design modification activities
- Deliverable: Review safety implications and provide engineering input to maintain compliance and mitigate risks.
- Stand in for the Concessions Engineer
- Deliverable: Maintain seamless management of concessions and related safety activities as required.
- Liaise with engineering and project teams
- Deliverable: Facilitate timely resolution of safety issues relating to concessions and design changes.
- Maintain accurate records
- Deliverable: Keep records of concessions, safety assessments and approvals up to date.
- Assist in the development and implementation of safety procedures
- Deliverable: Support creation and application of safety procedures and best practices relating to concessions and design modifications.
- Contribute to safety audits, reviews and reporting
- Deliverable: Participate in audits, reviews and safety reporting activities.
- Ensure compliance
- Deliverable: Adhere to relevant safety regulations, standards and organisational policies.

Essential Skills
- Professionally registered as a minimum as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).
- Proven experience providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful safety systems.
Desirable Skills
- Formal safety qualification and/or training.
- Experience within an Engineering Production Environment.
- Experience managing engineering safety activity within a Defence Major Programme (GMPP/CAT A).

- Hybrid working arrangement:
- 2 days per week at General Dynamics, Merthyr Tydfil.
- 1 day per week at MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol.
- 2 days per week working from home.
- UK nationals only.
- SC Clearance required.
