As a freelancer, you’ll work across assignments throughout the North West UK, delivering face-to-face interpretation with flexibility.
Summary Of The Face-to-Face Interpreter Role
The Face-to-Face Police Interpreter acts as a linguistic and cultural liaison, ensuring seamless communication between English-speaking professionals (e.g., police officers) and Albanian-speaking individuals. Key responsibilities include:
✔ On-site, consecutive interpretation (processing and conveying meaning accurately—with a clear distinction between client and participant conversations to avoid interruption).
✔ adherence to interpreting protocol, including accuracy, neutrality, sincerity, and confidentiality.
✔ Expertise across police, government, and educational terminology, with cultural sensitivity to avoid omissions or interpretation lapses.

✔ Self-management: book assignments independently, manage schedules, and maintain spontaneous adaptability based on client and assignment requirements.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Providing literal, culturally appropriate renditions of conversations in consecutive mode (no additions, deletions, or personal commentary).
- Exhibiting a professional demeanor, clarity, and courtesy during assignments.
- Responding to client instructions and maintaining communication flow without intervening between interlocutors unless permitted.
- Decoding and explaining complex situations (e.g., healthcare and legal protocols) to foster understanding.
- Applying **excellent cultural brokering to cater to sensitive environments (e.g., addressing language vs. culturally adapted communication needs).
- Maintaining strict confidentiality over all assignments.
Education And Professional Experience
Preferred Educational Background: (Any of the following is valued) ✔ Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in
- Linguistics
- Translation/Interpretation
- Philology
- Bilingual Education
✔ Doctors (PhD) in Linguistics, Interpreting, or related fields
Accreditation: ✔ NRPSI (National Register of Public Service Interpreters) ✔ DPSI (Diploma of Public Service Interpreting) ✔ DPI (Diploma in Police Interpreting)
Work Experience: ✔ 1+ years in localization/healthcare/services (preferred) ✔ Experience as a medical, legal, or PA/education interpreter ✔ Field experience in immigration, social services, or governmental settings

- Residency: Must be a UK-based freelance consultant for eligibility: UK Permanent Resident for 3+ years (per NPPV3 vetting standards).
