Do you want to help us improve human health and understand life on Earth? Make your mark by shaping the future to enable or deliver life-changing science to solve some of humanity’s greatest challenges. We are growing our capability to collaborate with industry and R&D partners and are now seeking to recruit an experienced Alliance Manager to join the Innovation and Impact Department at Wellcome Sanger Institute.

The new translation-focussed partnership function sits within the Innovation and Business Engagement team alongside Business Development and Venture creation activities.

About the Role

The Alliance Manager role supports the translational partnerships portfolio to ensure smooth collaboration, communication, mutual value creation and risk management. The role holder ensures the coordination, and operational management of Sanger partnerships with industry collaborators and our spinouts.

The Sanger institute is committed to applying its scientific outputs, capability and expertise towards the development of new products and services that could benefit society. One of the routes we do so is by collaborating with industry and sharing our research capabilities with partners who can build on our insight to solve real world challenges.

This role is critical for expanding the institute’s impact, as well as contributing to our scientific excellence by actively managing research projects we perform in collaboration with R&D-intensive organisations, building relationships and seeking opportunity to grow partners’ engagement.

About You

You will work closely with our faculty engaged in collaborative work and participate in joint steering group when set up. You will be the interface with internal operational functions, supporting smooth running of joint work and appropriate reporting. You will be passionate about science and can see the value of our research capability and insight for industry R&D. You will be a relationship builder and problem solver, becoming the first port of call for our collaborating partners.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
