We are seeking a passionate, resilient, and organised Teaching Assistant to provide both academic and pastoral support in our alternative provision.

Under the supervision of the Learning Manager, the successful candidate will deliver personalised support to help students bridge gaps in learning, manage behaviour, and meet their potential.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Support
- Supervise individuals or groups in structured learning environments.
- Under the guidance of the Learning Manager, assist students with:
- Sensory and physical impairments (as defined in EHCP plans).
- Non-specific learning difficulties (SDD, dyslexia, etc.).
- Behaviours, emotional, and social challenges (implementation of behaviour management policies).
- Communication and interaction difficulties (collaborating with external agencies).
- Ensure access to learning activities for students with special educational needs (SEN).
- Implement strategies to:
- Develop core skills (e.g., literacy, numeracy, life skills).
- Raise students’ motivation and engagement.
- Support personalised learning plans (student passports).
- Assist with administrative tasks such as:
- Recording and reviewing progress and achievements.
- Contributing to assessment records and reporting to the Learning Manager.

Pastoral Support
- Establish positive, constructive relationships with students, adapting support to their individual needs.
- Provide emotional and social mentoring, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
- Liaise with parents/carers to enhance student progression and address safeguarding concerns.
- Promote school policies related to pupil welfare, behaviour, and inclusion.
- Assist with out-of-hours activities and personal development experiences (within structured guidelines).
Administrative & Practical Duties
- Support classroom routines, including routine marking and feedback to students.
- Design basic learning displays with minimal supervision.
- Maintain digital resources (e.g., IT, adaptive learning tools).
Qualifications & Experience Requirements
- Essential:
- Proof of Maths and English GCSEs at Grade C/4 or equivalent (or at least current relevant CPD demonstrating equivalent levels).
- Demonstrated paramount commitment to safeguarding children.
- Understanding of restorative approach behaviour management (never punitive methods).

- Advantageous:
- Experience or training in SEN provision, behavioural support, or mental health awareness.
- Prior experience working with vulnerable or in-need students.
Safeguarding & Criminal Checks
CRITICAL: It is an offence to apply if barred from regulated child-facing roles. An enhanced DBS check (including Children’s Barred List) and name check through the DfE’s Check a Teacher (for applicable roles) are mandatory.
This role falls under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975), meaning protected convictions must be disclosed. Further guidance available on the Ministry of Justice website.
