Altnagelvin Emergency Medicine SHO/REG-ADHOC

Locum SHO/Middle Grade Emergency Department Doctor – ALTNAGELIN (NHS, Northern Ireland)


About the Role

Locum SHO (Senior House Officer) or Middle Grade role in the Emergency Department at Altnagelvin Hospital. A locum-adhoc position with dynamic shift patterns available starting 03/07/2024.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency medical assessment and care for acute and urgent patients across a spectrum of acute medical and surgical conditions.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with nursing staff, junior doctors, specialists, and allied health professionals.
  • Implement clinical protocols, clinical governance, and quality improvement measures following NHS best practice.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate referral pathways for urgent and complex cases.
  • Supervise and mentor medical trainees as applicable.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Valid GMC Registration with full Licence to Practice in the UK.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK.
  • Minimum of 6 months of medical experience in a similar UK Emergency Medicine role or relevant specialty.
  • Ability to adhere to rash rotational work patterns, including early starts, late finishes, night shifts, and weekends.
  • Clinical skills in:
    • Rapid patient assessment
    • Diagnosis and initial management of acute medical/surgical conditions
    • Prescription writing
    • IV cannulation, drug administration, and procedural interventions

Preferred:

  • Specialised experience in trauma,Haematology or ED-specific anaesthetics.
  • Familiarity with Northern Ireland’s local medical systems and protocols.
