RF & Analogue Design Engineer
Location: Cheadle, United Kingdom

Primary Purpose of the Role:
To carry out general engineering tasks required by the business, with a focus on designing and developing RF and electronic items within the CAP group, including but not limited to:
- Antennas
- Tuners
- RF distribution units
Key responsibilities also involve collaborating with architects, solution engineers, and business development teams to develop innovative, cost-effective, and compliant solutions. You will be expected to proactively learn and share knowledge with fellow engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Execution
- Create and follow a development plan agreed with your team leader, requesting assistance as needed.
- Contribute to design activities in a collaborative team-based environment with other engineers.
- Work with procurement and production to design cost-effective, easy-to-manufacture solutions.
System and Process Support
- Assist in detailed estimates and bids, especially for RF and analogue design-related decisions.
- Develop expertise and core capabilities in:
- Analogue design
- Simulation
- Testing within your team
- Support the team leader in mentoring less experienced engineers to manage engineering processes, tools, and design techniques.
- Collaborate with the team leader to advance the team’s knowledge in Design for Manufacture and Product Line Engineering.
- Support hardware plug managers to implement process improvements and initiatives.

Skills
Essential
- Highly skilled in Electronics and Hardware Engineering.
- Strong understanding of engineering design lifecycles and their interaction with system engineering.
- Knowledge of applying engineering techniques to the design and manufacture of electro-mechanical products.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, adaptable when working with varied teams.
- Proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Proven experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High level of autonomy and initiative in problem-solving tasks.
- Logical approach to tackling technical challenges.
Desirable
- Experience in digital and analogue electronic RF design.
- Professional PCB layout design skills.
Experience Requirements
Essential
- Practical experience within systems engineering lifecycles, especially in:
- Detailed requirements analysis and decomposition
- Managing technical aspects across related disciplines
- Leadership experience in designing electromechanical products.
- Background in radio communication and/or acoustic communications, preferably in a submarine environment.
- Past experience or strong familiarity with the defence industry.
- Hands-on experience in application areas including:
- Analogue, communications, or RF engineering.
- Electrical engineering systems.
Desirable
- Understanding of naval platforms.
- Previous exposure to design for:
- Communications equipment in the RF field.
- Sonar assemblies and sub-sea equipment.
- Deployment systems.
- General hardware engineering product design and development.
- Packaging solutions design and specification.

Security Clearance
All UK Eyes Only – Mandatory: This role requires:
- As a candidate, you must be a UK National.
- Achievement of Security Clearance (SC) without any caveats.
- If you do not currently hold SC, it is essential to successfully complete and maintain potential SC upon commencing employment.
- Approval by the MOD for dual nationals (non-ITAR country background) may be considered under rare circumstances.
General SC Requirements:
- Typically, at least 5 years’ UK residence is necessary.
- Occasionally, a minimum of 3 years’ UK residence over the last 5 years may be accepted, subject to additional overseas checks.
