Job Description: Analyst – Abbott Rapid Diagnostics, Abingdon, UK
About the Role Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, assembling leadership teams and cutting-edge technologies to support diagnostic testing for treatment and disease management. This Analyst role is based at our laboratory in Abingdon, UK, focusing on drug-of-abuse analysis in biological samples using high-precision techniques.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Routine Work
- Perform extractions of samples for analysis
- Prepare lab reagents following established protocols
- Run and save Sample Screening Techniques (SSTs)
- Conduct basic equipment checks and maintenance (e.g., pipettes, incubators)
- Ensure safety and efficiency in lab operations:
- Regular checks on expiry dates of consumables
- Maintenance of screening instruments (including reagent preparation)
- Validation of equipment (heaters, fridges, freezers)
- Achieve cross-training in screening and confirmation areas to maintain competencies

Site-Specific, Non-Daily Duties
- Complete approved training modules and assessments
- Perform stock checks, ordering supplies as needed
- Support development and implementation of new processes/methods
- Act as a mentor/buddy for Trainee Analysts
Qualifications & Experience
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in Science (or equivalent experience)
- Proficiency with:
- Drug-of-abuse panels and their clinical significance
- Extraction methods (immunity assays and chromatography techniques)
- Health & safety compliance in a lab environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous laboratory experience
- Familiarity with the Responsibilities listed above
