Analytical Chemist (Fixed-Term Contract) – Research & Development
Location & Duration
Ellesmere Port, 12-month fixed-term contract with Innospec.
About the Role
You’ll be a key part of our Research & Development (R&D) team at our Ellesmere Port site.Your role involves applying advanced analytical techniques to solve complex technical challenges, supporting the development of innovative products and processes.
Responsibilities
- Develop analytical solutions tailored to R&D project needs
- Apply advanced techniques, including:
- GC-MS, LC-MS, GPC, NMR, ICP-MS, thermal analysis and microscopy
- Define, develop, and validate analytical methods for new products/applications
- Interpret and present results clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimise analytical instrumentation
- Investigate complex chemical mixtures and unknown materials
- Provide technical support to:
- Apprentice laboratory technicians
- Global laboratory teams
- Collaborate across R&D, Product Management, Technical Services and Process Development

Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree qualified in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or a related discipline
- Experience in a developmental analytical role with investigatory responsibilities
- Practical knowledge in:
- GC-MS, LC-MS, GPC, NMR (and related equipment)
- Ability to develop and validate analytical methods
- Skill in resolving analytical challenges involving complex chemical mixtures
- Demonstrated method development and troubleshooting abilities
Technical & Soft Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication: Clear documentation and stakeholder engagement
- Proactive, collaborative approach with a strong attention to detail
- Commitment to ethical, accurate analytical practices
