Analytical Chemist

Analytical Chemist (Fixed-Term Contract) – Research & Development

Location & Duration

Ellesmere Port, 12-month fixed-term contract with Innospec.


About the Role

You’ll be a key part of our Research & Development (R&D) team at our Ellesmere Port site.Your role involves applying advanced analytical techniques to solve complex technical challenges, supporting the development of innovative products and processes.


Responsibilities

  • Develop analytical solutions tailored to R&D project needs
  • Apply advanced techniques, including:
    • GC-MS, LC-MS, GPC, NMR, ICP-MS, thermal analysis and microscopy
  • Define, develop, and validate analytical methods for new products/applications
  • Interpret and present results clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimise analytical instrumentation
  • Investigate complex chemical mixtures and unknown materials
  • Provide technical support to:
    • Apprentice laboratory technicians
    • Global laboratory teams
  • Collaborate across R&D, Product Management, Technical Services and Process Development

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or a related discipline
  • Experience in a developmental analytical role with investigatory responsibilities
  • Practical knowledge in:
    • GC-MS, LC-MS, GPC, NMR (and related equipment)
  • Ability to develop and validate analytical methods
  • Skill in resolving analytical challenges involving complex chemical mixtures
  • Demonstrated method development and troubleshooting abilities

Technical & Soft Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication: Clear documentation and stakeholder engagement
  • Proactive, collaborative approach with a strong attention to detail
  • Commitment to ethical, accurate analytical practices
