We are looking for a commercially driven and technically credible Analytical Manager to lead the growth, diversification and operational performance of our environmental testing services. This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone who can combine analytical expertise, strategic thinking and strong people leadership to expand capability, improve customer outcomes and deliver sustainable commercial growth.
Job Description
As Analytical Manager, you will play a key role in defining and delivering the strategic growth plan for analytical services. You will identify new service opportunities, strengthen existing capabilities and work closely with commercial, operational and technical teams to develop high-value, turnkey environmental testing solutions that meet evolving market and customer needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the growth strategy for analytical environmental testing services, identifying opportunities to diversify and expand the service portfolio.
- Take ownership of financial performance, including revenue, margin, cost control, capacity planning and return on investment for new initiatives.
- Provide senior technical and analytical leadership across existing services while supporting method development, validation and commercialisation of new capabilities.
- Build, lead and develop high-performing teams, ensuring the right structure, skills and succession plans are in place to support long-term growth.
- Partner with commercial, operational, industrial and environmental teams to deliver joined-up solutions for customers across sectors.
- Oversee accredited systems, regulatory compliance, quality standards and safe working practices across analytical services.
- Monitor market trends, customer requirements and innovation opportunities to ensure services remain relevant, competitive and commercially successful.
- Represent analytical services internally and externally, including client meetings, presentations and collaboration across the wider SGS network.

Qualifications
You will be an experienced senior analytical, laboratory or technical operations leader with a strong understanding of environmental testing, accredited laboratory environments and commercial service delivery. You will bring the confidence to lead change, develop people, influence stakeholders and translate technical capability into sustainable business growth.
- Proven senior management experience, ideally with P&L responsibility within analytical testing, laboratory services or a related technical environment.
- Strong commercial awareness with evidence of growing services, developing new business opportunities and delivering profitable growth.
- Technical credibility in analytical services, including method development, validation, accredited systems or regulatory standards.
- Experience leading sizeable, diverse or geographically dispersed teams through growth, transformation or operational improvement.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across technical, commercial and operational teams.
- A strategic mindset, balanced with the operational discipline to deliver against financial, quality, customer and compliance targets.
- The role will require regular travel to our laboratories in the Midlands and North East, ensuring close connection with teams, operations and customers across key sites.
