Analytical Support Chemist – Runcorn, Cheshire, UK

Main Purpose

As an Analytical Support Chemist based at Runcorn, Cheshire, UK, you will:

  • Support the design, development, installation, validation, and continuous improvement of analytical instruments, methods, and technology
  • Ensure pharmaceutical cGMP compliance for Medical QC laboratories on-site (Rocksavage) and at third-party locations
  • Implement new laboratory systems, processes, and procedures aligned with high industry standards

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Operational Support

  • Provide expert analytical knowledge and problem-solving support to Medical QC teams and external customers for production/product quality issues.
  • Define, source, implement, and validate new analytical equipment, instruments, and systems to meet evolving testing requirements.
  • Maintain and calibrate QC analytical equipment per laboratory procedures and schedules, ensuring availability for production needs.
  • Manage complex chemical safety risks using risk assessment methodology in hazardous environments.

Process Improvement

  • Lead or collaborate on technical projects to enhance laboratory efficiency, compliance, and IT systems.
  • Work closely with production, technical, and QC teams to bridge gaps between process needs and analytical solutions.

Training & Development

  • Train and coach technical and QC teams on analytical techniques, test methods, and laboratory systems as required.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • HNC/HND in Chemistry

Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree in Chemistry or a related subject

Key Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience in pharmaceutical cGMP laboratory operations and pharmacaceutical standards compliance.
  • Familiarity with analytical method development, particularly gas chromatography (GC) and related CDS systems.
  • Proven ability to implement, validate, and optimise analytical methods and systems to GMP standards.
  • Proficiency in technical and quality documentation, including drafting, reviewing, and approving procedures, plans, protocols, and reports.
  • Expertise with laboratory IT systems (LIMS, CDS, EQMS, MS Office) with some capacity for super user or system administration.
  • Experience in continuous improvement methodologies, such as VSM, RCA, or 5S protocols (desirable).
  • Awareness of data integrity processes and best practices (desirable).
