We provide:

  • A full suite of corporate finance products and solutions.

Role Summary

The Analytics Governance Director is a critical new role within the Data Analytics Function—one of five functions under the EMEA Data Office.

As part of our multi-year transformation programme, we aim to ensure compliance with BCBS 239 (Basel Committee’s Principles for Effective Risk Data Aggregation and Risk Reporting). This initiative spans multiple technology and data workstreams, with direct relevance to SMBC EMEA’s future ECB onboarding requirements (expected from FY27 onwards).

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Lead the development of Analytics Governance Capability across all EMEA entities, including securities and banking subsidiaries.
  • Establish, oversee, and embed new frameworks, policies, and standards for the governance of reporting and analytics.
  • Focus on creating an ethos of openness and collaboration conducive to business innovation.

This role requires a strong blend of strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement, and delivery governance across both projects and business-as-usual operations. Candidates should be able to confidently challenge the status quo, while driving transparency and measurable business impact. Successful applicants will thrive in ambiguous situations and influence cross-functional stakeholders.

If you want to make a lasting impact—not just within one team, but across the entire bank—we would love to discuss this opportunity with you.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
