Anatomical Pathology Technician (APT) – Vacancy in Mortuary Network

The Network of Mortuaries at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire currently has vacancies in the Anatomical Pathology Technician (APT) team.
About the Role
Our mortuary network cares for over 4,000 patients per year and is the busiest forensic department in the region, serving police forces across West Midlands, West Mercia, and Warwick. Tasks include forensic work, autopsies, and merit cases.
The Trust is actively expanding mortuary capacity, seeking to continuously enhance service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Work under the oversight of the Network Mortuary Manager and Senior APTs to:
- Ensure efficient, regulated service provision in alignment with Trust, Coroner’s, and Department of Health guidelines.
- Support forensic, pathologist, and hospital services across three sites:
- University Hospital Coventry
- South Warwickshire Foundation Trust
- Rugby and St Cross Hospital
- Maintain high compliance standards through audits, risk assessments, SOPs, and incident investigations, including HTA, UKAS, and CQC preparatory activities.
- Participate in the on-call forensic service, including out-of-hours working.
- Assist laboratory staff with pathological cases.
- Operate efficiently to promote research and innovation while ensuring patient dignity and confidentiality.

Person Specification & Requirements
- Essential:
- A full UK driving license (≥ 2 years) is mandatory (international licenses not accepted).
- Technical ability to support broad misiónary (post-mortem) suite operations.
- High communication and keyboard skills to manage HCA messages, SOPs, and audits efficiently.
- Desirable:
- Ability to work independently under pressure and at short notice.
- Good Microsoft Office proficiency for reporting and documentation.
Employment Terms
- Salary banded at Band 4 (exact level determined on merit).
- Immunisation and vaccination report required at interview from either:
- Current NHS occupational health provider
- UK GP
