Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust for a role as a Band 6 Senior Anatomical Pathology Technician.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and dynamic Specialist Anatomical Pathology Technician with fantastic communication skills and a proactive approach to join our team in Mortuary Services.

The successful candidate will need to have good mortuary experience and, after initial training, be able to take charge at one of the mortuary sites in the absence of the Mortuary Manager. The successful candidate will join the small but busy Mortuary Team.

The role is to provide a compassionate and customer-focused high-quality mortuary service in conformance with the relevant legislation, code of practice, and guidance to the Crown Office, local authorities, private organisations, and individuals, including bereaved relatives.

Main Duties of the Job

The post-holder is responsible for assisting in the provision of the Mortuary Service Trust-wide; there are three mortuaries within the Trust, Charing Cross, Hammersmith, and St Mary's.

  • Work in this area requires frequent exposure to highly distressing and emotive situations and in addition to periods of intense physical activity with the need to maintain concentration for long periods.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to organise and prioritise work is required.
  • There is the need to lone work and to also work well within a small team, sometimes under challenging circumstances.
  • To ensure that the deceased and their relatives are always treated with dignity and respect and perform a broad range of technical work activities ensuring provision of an efficient service that is in accordance with Trust, Coroner's, and Department of Health regulations and requirements.

Essential

Education/Qualifications

  • Maths, English, and Science GCSE
  • Computer Literacy and ability to use common software

Experience

  • Proven experience of working in a small team or by yourself.

Other Requirements

  • Good written communication skills

Desirable

Education/Qualifications

  • Willing to enroll and complete the Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology
  • A Level or Degree qualification
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Experience

  • Working knowledge of the Human Tissue Act
  • Experience of working in a mortuary setting
  • Experience of viewing or handling human tissues or bodies
