Senior Android Engineer

About Starling Bank

Starling is the UK’s first and leading digital bank, driven by a mission to revolutionise banking. We blend a financial institution’s security and licensing with the speed and innovation of a cutting-edge tech company.

Our Why

We were built by technologists for technologists, obsessed with creating tools that simplify saving, spending, and managing finances. Our culture is flat and collaborative, prioritising expertise and individual growth while empowering everyone to innovate.

Our Values

Our culture thrives on five core values:

  • Listen – Actively engage with users, teams, and the business.
  • Keep It Simple – Prioritise clarity and efficiency.
  • Do The Right Thing – Integrity in actions and decisions.
  • Own It – Take responsibility for your work and the team’s success.
  • Aim For Greatness – Stretch yourself and the business to exceed expectations.

Our Tech & Culture

We’re a fully remote-first bank with core offices in London, Southampton, Cardiff, and Manchester. For technology roles, minimum in-office presence: 1 day/week.

The Android Engineering Role

We hire at all levels and value engineers who are caring about the product, passionate about building great features, and eager to collaborate across the organisation. As a Senior Android Engineer, you’ll accelerate banking innovation by working on our award-winning app (Awwwards Mobile App of the Year).

Your Responsibilities

  • Build & Optimise – Develop, improve, and maintain our Kotlin-first app (MVVM, Dagger, RxJava).
  • Release Responsibility – Rotate as release manager, shipping bi-weekly updates.
  • Ship Self-Driving Change – Enhance test coverage (Espresso, JUnit) and refining our CI tooling suite.
  • Collaborate – Pair with designers, DevOps, and QA to prototype experiments and production features.
  • Stakeholder Leadership – Mentor junior engineers, advise on technical direction, and act as the bridge between idea and implementation.
  • Privilege – Review new technologies fairly for the business’s benefit and our users.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
