Halesowen College is proud to offer a sector-leading animal care facility where high standards of animal welfare sit at the heart of everything we do. Our animal unit provides students with an inspiring, hands-on learning environment and gives them the opportunity to develop the practical skills, confidence and professional behaviours needed for successful careers in the animal care sector.
As our student numbers continue to grow, we are looking to appoint a full-time Animal Care Technician. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong animal husbandry skills, a working knowledge of a broad range of taxa, and a particular interest and experience in small mammals.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
