Role Purpose

The purpose of the role will be to support the Animal Health and Welfare Team in delivering statutory duties including animal health, welfare, animal welfare licensing, identification, movement control, animal by-products, and enforcement. The apprentice will gain practical experience in regulatory work while completing a recognised apprenticeship qualification.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of records and database systems
  • Production of correspondence
  • Assisting officers during inspections at livestock and animal welfare licensed premises
  • Supporting the triage and recording of complaints
  • Liaising with service users
  • Providing advice
  • Responding to complaints
  • Assisting with evidence gathering for potential enforcement action
  • Visiting farms, kennels, stables, and other rural premises

Requirements

The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in animal welfare, agriculture, and regulatory enforcement, excellent communication skills both written and verbal, be keen to learn, have excellent organisational skills, pay attention to detail, be able to follow instructions, and be willing to work outdoors in rural settings. Basic IT skills are essential to this role along with a commitment to completing the apprenticeship and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Knowledge of and experience working with animals or in agricultural environments is desirable as well as being a team player with a positive attitude and a full UK driving licence.
