One-to-One Instructional Assistant — Special Education George Wolf Elementary Anticipated opening for the 2026–2027 school year; hours: 8:45 AM – 3:00 PM


TITLE & CATEGORY

  • Category: II Instructional Assistants
  • Reports to: Building Principal & Director of Special Education

JOB SUMMARY

The One-to-One Instructional Assistant supports a certificated teacher by reinforcing instruction for a specific student in a classroom or other learning environment, assisting with adaptive tasks, literacy, and behavioral support.


QUALIFICATIONS

Success in this role requires:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalence
  • Compliance with pre-employment protocols:
    • Employment Eligibility, Criminal History Record Check, Drug Testing, Physical Examination/TB Test
  • Demonstrated ability to meet "Highly Qualified" status under No Child Left Behind (via one of the following):
    • Associate Degree (or)
    • 48 post-secondary credits (or)
    • Successful completion of a District-approved assessment
  • Direct experience assisting children, particularly those with special needs
  • English fluency with strong oral/written communication skills
  • Collaboration skills: ability to work courteously with students, families, staff, and public
  • Computer literacy: proficiency in assigned software, office equipment, and confidentiality protocols
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build cooperative, proactive working relationships

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Academic principles and child development
  • Core subject domains: math, science, social studies, grammar, spelling, language, and reading
  • Fundamental instructional preferences, methods and classroom behavior management

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS

The role is essential-related and may accommodate reasonable adjustments per the employer.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one or small-group instruction under teacher direction, reinforcing assigned lessons
  • Monitor and support students across subjects, including:
    • Assignments, homework and project completion
    • Study drills and practice activities
  • Specially trained support: assist students with self-help skills (toileting, feeding, etc.)
  • Implement student behavior plans and lesson materials to meet individual needs
  • Assure understanding of classroom procedures/rules
  • Prepare and organize instructional materials (printing, typing, filing, etc.)
  • Maintain supportive environment through:
    • Work area setup and student support
    • Paper/supply distribution and collection
  • Record and submit ACCESS billing & logging data:
    • Track daily/future ACCESS logs with weekly submissions
  • Communicate with school staff to resolve issues
  • Maintain annual compliance with Chapter 14 requirements

Additional Responsibilities

  • Engage students in reading/writing activities, including storytime
  • Assist with supply ordering as directed
  • Follow all District health & safety regulations
  • Complete certified training in CPR/AED/First Aid
  • Participate in mandatory meetings and professional development

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Hours: 6–7.5 hours daily, 182 days annually
  • Compensation: Hourly rate + benefits as per the ESPA Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • FLSA Status: Non-exempt
