AOCS Engineer

Senior AOCS Engineer

Location: Guildford (Hybrid)


Role Overview

Senior AOCS Engineer responsible for end-to-end spacecraft Attitude and Orbit Control System (AOCS) delivery, working across the full mission lifecycle from design through to launch and in-orbit operations. Acts as AOCS subsystem lead on LEO, GEO, and lunar missions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead AOCS subsystem design and delivery on spacecraft missions
  • Develop spacecraft attitude and orbit control architectures
  • Define AOCS modes (e.g. safe mode, pointing modes, acquisition modes)
  • Design guidance, control, and estimation algorithms
  • Capture and derive AOCS requirements from system-level needs
  • Specify and select AOCS sensors and actuators (e.g. star trackers, reaction wheels, magnetorquers)
  • Define AOCS software requirements and support implementation
  • Perform AOCS verification and validation activities
  • Support LEOP, commissioning, and in-orbit operations
  • Interface with customers and internal engineering teams
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers

Required Experience

  • 5+ years experience in spacecraft AOCS design and analysis
  • Strong understanding of spacecraft dynamics, kinematics, and orbital mechanics
  • Experience in control systems and estimation techniques (e.g. Kalman filtering)
  • Exposure to full spacecraft lifecycle (design → launch → operations)
  • Experience acting as technical lead or work package lead
