AP (Authorised Person) Shift Engineer – London
Location: London Salary: £44,000 per annum + overtime + shift allowance Working Hours: 4 days on duty, 4 days off (rotating shifts, 6 AM–6 PM)

Job Purpose
An AP (Authorised Person) Shift Engineer is required to supervise the provision of Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) building services, including maintenance, small works projects, and contractor management.
Role Summary
By working evenings and weekends over a 4-on-4-off shift rotation, this role ensures continuous oversight of estate engineering services, critical plant systems, and emergency breakdowns while managing subcontractors. As the most technically capable on-site, you’ll handle high-stakes decisions in **health, safety, and emergencyPlant between working hours.
Key Responsibilities
Core Operational Duties
- Provide first-line technical support for engineering teams.
- Manage subcontractor inductions, review competencies, and approve qualifications.
- Review and endorse subcontractor RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements).
- Oversee planned/maintenance projects to ensure compliance with health and safety law, achieving quality standards.
- Deliver and monitor assigned maintenance tasks to meet KPIs and SLAs (Service Level Agreements).
- Offer hands-on mentorship to junior engineers.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced plant systems (HVAC, BMS, generators, UPS, fire systems).
- Respond to and resolve BMS critical alerts.
- Ensure accurate compliance records, regulations adherence, and enforcement of safety protocols.

HV/LV Authorised Person Duties
- Conduct routine High Voltage (HV) checks and inspections per HV standards, test certificates, and generation protocols.
- Execute safety programs for electrical facilities.
- Issue electrical permits-to-work.
- Execute and verify safe electrical isolation of complex systems.
- Maintain detailed test and documentation records.
Supervisory Accountabilities
- Handle full estates engineering responsibilities during evening/weekend shifts.
- Directly manage contractors and incident response.
- Act as the go-to technical expert for on-call emergencies, including health & safety and breakdown resolutions.
- Make critical decision-making under pressure.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must possess:
- Formal mechanical, electrical, or hybrid/hybrid-skills specialisation qualifications.
- valids beyond number Modular or similar with:
- C&G 2360 Part 1 & 2 (Level 4 Designing_documents or Electrical Installations for General Engineers
- Inspections and testing (C&G 2391 or AIEE Level 3 Om Malik Personnel);
- 18th edition wiring regulations.
- A minimum of 3 years experience in maintenance, capital or key account management.

Specialist expertise must include:
- Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, BMS (Building Management Systems), motors, pumps, fire systems, UPS (Uninterruptible Power Suppliers), generators, emergency lighting, lighting controls (CASAMBI, DALI).
- In-depth understanding of electricalioletries including generators and artificial cooling.
- Proficiency in debugging plant, resolving critical system failures, and ensuring seamless operations.
- Fully comprehensive working experience onsufficiently in a similar ROH5 (floor manager, OOH/keeper role) environment.
- Sound certifications from a reputable, accredited college or training providers eg IOSH Working Judaismally, NEBOSH ROC International Certificate for Iosaswriting and working alone.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills with the ability to collaborate under pressure with external contractors.
