Location: Remote Contract: 6 Months (Initial) Rate: £700 per day (Inside IR35) Start: Immediate
About the Role
We're seeking an experienced API DataPower Consultant to join a large-scale enterprise programme, focused on supporting the design, configuration, and administration of a critical API and middleware platform. This is a hands-on technical role, where you'll oversee the building, configuration, and support of IBM API Connect and DataPower environments, ensuring secure, scalable, and resilient API services across a hybrid cloud estate.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, configure, and administer IBM API Connect (v5 & v10) environments
- Configure and maintain cloud platform topology, including:
- API Manager
- Developer Portal
- Analytics
- DataPower integration
- Create, configure, and manage CMC DataPower services
- Configure and support API Management (APIM) services
- Manage TLS profiles, including certificate:
- Generation
- Renewal
- Configuration
- Configure Mutual TLS (mTLS) authentication and secure communication between platforms
- Manage certificates and encryption, including handling:
- CSR
- PEM
- DER
- P12 formats using OpenSSL
- Support DataPower administration, configuration, and middleware integration
- Troubleshoot platform, connectivity, and security issues across API environments
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and engineering teams to deliver secure, resilient API services

Essential Skills & Experience
- Extensive commercial experience with IBM API Connect v5 and v10
- Strong hands-on experience building and administering API Connect environments
- Proficiency in IBM DataPower Gateway administration and configuration
- Experience with:
- API Manager
- Developer Portal
- Analytics
- DataPower integration
- Expertise in TLS profile creation and certificate management
- Solid understanding of certificate formats:
- CSR
- PEM
- DER
- P12
- Experience with OpenSSL for certificate generation and management
- Knowledge of Mutual TLS (mTLS) authentication
- Strong grasp of middleware platforms and enterprise API integration

- Hybrid cloud platform experience
- Basic networking knowledge:
- Routing
- Firewalls
- SSH
- Connectivity troubleshooting
- Scripting experience (Shell, Bash, or Python)
- Experience with UrbanCode or similar deployment tooling
- Experience working within Agile delivery teams
