Application and Platform Engineer Shift Pattern: Standard 40 Hour Week (United Kingdom) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Corporate Grade: E - Associate Reporting Line: (UK Division) Information Technology Location: UK-London Worker Type: Permanent Overall Purpose of Role: Provide Level 2/3 support for the LME’s mission‑critical Middle Office, Back Office, and Market Data applications. The role blends Application Support, SRE, and Platform Engineering to deliver highly reliable, resilient, and automated systems across production environments and containerised platforms. Responsibilities: Support production applications with a platform‑engineering mindset, including containerised environments and Infrastructure as Code. Build, migrate, and manage physical, virtual, OpenShift, and Kubernetes platforms to deliver scalable, resilient environments targeting five‑nines availability. Provide technical support for application rollouts across Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid delivery models. Troubleshoot and resolve incidents across the application, infrastructure, and network stack. Improve services through automation, tooling enhancements, and process optimisation. Contribute to incident, problem, and change management. Validate releases via QA and automated test pipelines. Apply SRE practices such as proactive monitoring, observability, and performance tuning. Key Accountabilities: Maintain and support mission‑critical Trading, Data, and Clearing applications. Contribute to regulatory, security, and infrastructure programmes. Use observability platforms to monitor and tune application performance. Maintain stable test and production environments. Support CI/CD pipeline enhancements and automation initiatives. Keep documentation accurate and up to date. Participate in DR, resilience, and operational readiness exercises. Help identify and address security vulnerabilities across platforms and applications. Technical Responsibilities: Maintain and test disaster recovery procedures. Respond rapidly to production issues, providing clear communication throughout. Support 24/7/365 availability, including shifts and on‑call participation. Work with CI/CD tools (Bamboo, Bitbucket) to support deployment pipelines. Contribute to Infrastructure as Code delivery using Ansible Tower. Manage OpenShift and Kubernetes clusters to ensure reliability and scalability. Operate modern observability stacks (Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk) for metrics, logs, and alerting. Automate operational tasks using Python, Bash, or PowerShell. Working With: Collaborate with production teams, project teams, business stakeholders, Risk/Security/GRC, and external vendors and auditors. PERSON SPECIFICATION: Academic and Professional Qualifications Required: Degree in Computer Science or 2+ years relevant professional experience. Required Knowledge and Level of Experience: Strong SQL/database knowledge (MySQL, Oracle, Liquibase). Experience with CI/CD, IaC, and containerised platforms. Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools. Exposure to DevSecOps and vulnerability scanning. 2–4 years in financial or other mission‑critical environments. Good understanding of networking, infrastructure, and cloud technologies. Experience supporting .NET, Java, and microservices. Desirable Skills for Role: ITIL v3/v4 certification. ServiceNow experience. Knowledge of SRE, Agile/Lean methodologies. Understanding of Swift payment flows. Personal Qualities: Strong problem solver with technical curiosity and a modern engineering mindset. Clear communicator and collaborative team player. Proactive, organised, and detail‑oriented with strong documentation skills. Passionate about automation, reliability, and continuous improvement. Comfortable working under pressure and prioritising effectively. Advocates for learning, blameless post‑mortems, and experimentation.
