Application Developer

Team: Digital Transformation & IT
Contract type: Fixed-term contract (12 months), 0.8 FTE (4 days/week)
Location: Hybrid
Salary: £35,000–£40,000

Purpose

The Applications Developer will help shape, support, and improve the organisation’s application landscape, with a focus on our membership platform, HubSpot CRM integrations, payment services, cloud-hosted applications, and key legacy systems. Working with colleagues, suppliers, and technology partners, you will keep systems stable, secure, and scalable while delivering practical improvements that support our digital ambitions.

Key responsibilities

Application development

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance applications using React and Python.
  • Support the development of the Membership Platform and associated services.
  • Design, build, and maintain APIs, integrations, and supporting services.
  • Contribute to solution design, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and scalable code.

Integration and data

  • Develop and support integrations across the Membership Platform, HubSpot CRM, legacy PHP systems, middleware, third-party applications, and payment providers.
  • Maintain API endpoints and PHP data synchronization processes.
  • Troubleshoot integration issues and help ensure data remains accurate and consistent.
  • Support improvements to CRM workflows and automated business processes.

Cloud and infrastructure support

  • Support applications and services hosted in AWS.
  • Assist with monitoring, deployments, and operational management of cloud services.
  • Monitor application performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

Database management

  • Develop and maintain SQL queries, scripts, and database solutions.
  • Support database performance, integrity, and security.
  • Investigate data issues and support reporting needs.

Application and payment support

  • Provide second-line support for business-critical applications.
  • Manage support tickets, incidents, and service requests.
  • Diagnose and resolve application, integration, payment, and data-related issues.

Relationships

The Applications Developer will report to the Director of Digital Transformation & Technology and work closely with the Senior Technical. They will be a valued member of the Technology team, building strong relationships with colleagues across departments, Home Nations teams, suppliers, and technology partners.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Strong experience developing applications using React and Python
  • Experience working with REST APIs, web services, and API endpoint management
  • Experience managing and developing SQL databases
  • Experience designing, developing, or supporting integrations between business systems, APIs, middleware, or third-party platforms
  • Experience supporting business-critical or customer-facing applications in a live environment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage application support tickets, incidents, and service requests
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience supporting digital membership platforms or customer portals
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a small, fast-paced Digital Transformation and Technology team
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging technologies
  • Experience supporting cloud-based applications and services
  • Experience working with third-party suppliers and technology partners

Desirable

  • Knowledge of AWS cloud technologies and cloud-hosted environments
  • Understanding of data synchronization processes and data integrity best practices
  • Experience with CRM’s and associated integrations, including supporting CRM, membership, and payment system integrations
  • Knowledge of payment gateway integrations including Stripe, GoCardless, and Secure Trading
  • Knowledge of AWS services including Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, CloudWatch, and S3
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Experience working with data migration, synchronization, and transformation processes
  • Experience working with legacy systems and application modernization programmes
  • Experience supporting membership, subscription, or customer management platforms
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments

Qualifications (desirable)

  • Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Software Development, Information Technology, or related discipline
