The Role
Here at Survitec, we are currently recruiting for an Application Engineer to join our Engineering team.
Key responsibilities for the Application Engineer role include but are not limited to:
- Utilises deep understanding of Survitec products sets to adapt solutions effectively to meet customer need, regulatory standard and maintain appropriate margins.
- Contributes to the setting of Survitec engineering standards and specifications and the process to evaluate the effectiveness of those standards; identifies shortcomings in existing processes, systems and procedures, and uses appropriate change management processes to address and improve them.
- Analyses detailed proposal information, to specify the methods, process steps, and the plant, machinery and equipment required to meet the customer design needs within specified cost and quality parameters.
- Provides detailed solution specification review, adapting to meet the needs of specific customer and vessel layouts, within SOLAS regulations and any other government, maritime and business guidelines.
- Produces initial specifications review, deviation lists and drawings to support proposal development and costing and win the business; ensures the appropriate balance is maintained ahead of contract award, between level of detail required to win the bid and the manpower allocated.
- At contract stage, completes general arrangement drawings and constructs the detailed bill of materials; works with the customer or shipyard to refine the design, attending contract review meetings to ensure changes are reflected in the overall contract costing and negotiation.
- Utilises Survitec systems to communicate effectively and accurately the final customer requirements and design to the engineering and production teams; works with those teams to ensure full understanding of the customer solution.
- Builds a knowledge bank of materials, specifications and drawings to drive efficiency in the engineering process; identifies opportunities to improve engineering processes or products or to reduce costs, improve quality or drive efficiency.
- Builds and maintains relationships with Category Managers, Sales, Customer Services and Engineering to ensure effective collaboration and smooth flow of information.
- Provides design materials to support the sales process, supplementing standard materials with deep product insight to ensure sales presentations to decision makers and influencers leverage product benefits.
- Asks relevant questions to identify and respond to areas requiring further information or explanation.
- Works with Category Managers and Marketing colleagues to produce accurate and effective internal and external product communications materials.

About You

Essential Criteria
- Educated to University degree level; or Further Education College with 2 A levels and completed the Survitec Apprentice and Graduate Engineer development programs (or equivalent)
- Extensive experience of engineering experience enables the role holder to deal with most situations and advise others

Desirable Criteria
- No formal managerial experience required to begin this role
- Marine experience
- AutoCAD (or similar 2D design software) experience
- Available to travel within and outside of the UK
