Application Engineer – Legal Technology & Enterprise Systems

Gibson Dunn is a leading global law firm, advising clients on significant transactions and disputes. Our exceptional teams craft and deploy creative legal strategies tailored to every matter, ensuring a unique combination of precision and forward-thinking execution.

Our Application Engineer role (based in the US/remote or London) focuses on the full lifecycle of core enterprise applications, ensuring reliability, performance, security, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will work on critical platforms, including:

  • Document & Records Management: iManage Work 10, Preview Servers, RAVN, iManage Mobility, Threat Manager, Co-Authoring, Closing Folders, SPM, Litera CAM, GDSI
  • Integrations & Workflows: Intapp Wallbuilder, Intapp Integrate, Boomi
  • Records Management: Micro Focus Content Manager, IDOL OEM, iCompli, Future In Tech (FiT)
  • Core Platforms: Windows Server 2016–2022, Apache, Linux, Windows OS, macOS, AVD, virtualisation environments

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Desktop and Application Services, this role requires collaboration with both technical and business stakeholders to deliver seamless, scalable solutions.


Key Responsibilities

Application Management & Lifecycle

  • Administer, configure, and optimise assigned applications to ensure stability, performance, and user adoption.
  • Monitor system health, diagnose complex technical issues, and develop scalable solutions.
  • Lead upgrades, patching, and continuous improvement initiatives for enterprise-grade applications.
  • Perform comprehensive testing and quality assurance to ensure successful rollouts.

Design & Implementation

  • Partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into secure, scalable systems and integrations.
  • Architect workflows, security models, and migration strategies aligned with firm standards.
  • Lead or support automation initiatives and new tech deployments, including REST APIs.
  • Develop and maintain data flows, integration rules, and business logic (Intapp Integrate/Boomi).

Risk, Security & Compliance

  • Ensure applications comply with security standards, data protection requirements, and regulatory obligations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Conduct risk assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and coordinate remediation activities.
  • Maintain compliance documentation, incident response plans, and SOP records.
  • Serve as the primary vendor liaison for issue tracking and strategic enhancements.
  • Evaluate new software products and vendor performance to support decision-making.

Project & Documentation Management

  • Oversee project timelines, deliverables, and cross-team dependencies (internal/external).
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including architecture decisions, workflows, and user guides.
  • Develop training materials for end users, technical teams, and stakeholders.

Application-Specific Tasks

  • Daily administration of document management features—includuing security access, data sync, workspace management, and data import/export via Litera CAM.
  • Advanced querying, record updates, and stored procedure troubleshooting across Intapp SQL schemas and security models.
  • Design and maintain workflows, security policies, and business rules for Intapp Walls.
  • Ensure DMS/CMS integrations (SharePoint, OneDrive, iManage On-Prem/Cloud) meet security and compliance standards.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities using REST APIs and low-code platforms.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Compliance teams to validate wall implementations.

Requirements & Qualifications

Technical Expertise

  • Deep-level troubleshooting skills for enterprise systems (log analysis, diagnostics).
  • PowerShell proficiency and experience with scripting (automation, upgrades, configuration).
  • Advanced database knowledge (Microsoft SQL, T-SQL) and core networking.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux/Windows admin, macOS Integration, and AVD.
  • Rest API development, integration frameworks (Intapp Integrate/Boomi), and data flow automation.

Relevant Experience (8+ years)*

  • Enterprise application administration in a legal/regulated professional services environment.
  • Client/server app management and global IT support operations.
  • Document Records Management Systems (DRMS), eDiscovery solutions, or legal tech ecosystems.
  • iManage Work 10/Litera CAM integrations, Intapp Walls, or Lamentis натягs.
  • Basic familiarity with cloud migrations (AWS/Azure) and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).

Soft Skills & Methodologies

  • Familiarity with ITIL frameworks (incident management, change control).
  • Lean/Agile workflows or structured project delivery approaches.
  • Strong vendor collaboration skills, portfolio management, and SLA tracking.

Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
