Application Support Analyst – SQL – Banking
Join a leading international bank as our Application Support Analyst in this hands-on 2nd line support role. You’ll work within a specialist team, delivering software support for core banking applications in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
Supporting business-critical banking systems requires a strong SQL background, Windows Server experience and the ability to troubleshoot complex application challenges. You’ll collaborate with internal teams, business users and third-party suppliers to resolve incidents efficiently.
About the Role
This application support position is responsible for:
- Keeping banking systems operational
- Adhering to tight SLAs (Service Level Agreements)
- Acting as a technical bridge between developers, IT, and end-users
The team is small and invested in fostering both solutions and process improvements, meaning your contributions will create tangible impact.
Responsibilities
Incident & Reporting Management
- Escalate and resolve external incidents, service requests, and system alerts within SLA bounds.
- Follow clear procedures for incident handover, communication, and post-resolution testing.
- Conduct root cause analysis to prevent recurrence and complete documentation of findings.
Technical Troubleshooting
- Examine application issues across bespoke/Custom-built systems, databases, and Microsoft Azure hosting environments.
- Query databases using SQL to diagnose and resolve problems.
- Utilize PowerShell and SFTP/WinSCP tools for remote analysis when required.

Change & Production Support
- Assist with application deployments into production, including validation testing.
- Participate in post-release tasking to ensure service restores to standard.
Knowledge & Improvement
- Build runbooks and troubleshooting documentation for follow-on support.
- Identify automation opportunities to streamline common activities.
- Engage with security risk assessments and vulnerability remediations as part of the ITSM process.
On-Call & Coordination
- Rotate as a first responder in on-call support, responding to production system alerts.
- Work closely with supplier teams and internal groups to drive resolution.
- Act as SME/contact for asset management, ITIL, and system changes at requester’s discretion.
Requirements
Core Experience & Skills
- Hands-on experience in application support, preferably in a banking/financial context.
- Proficient SQL usage with relational databases (MS-SQL preferred but not mandatory).
- Experience working with custom-built application and legacy system support.
- Solid working knowledge of Windows Server environments, including troubleshooting.
- PowerShell proficiency for scripting and IT automation tasks.
- Experience with SFTP/WinSCP and scripting tools to replicate and retrieve technical data.
- Monitoring/Alerting tools: Experience with APM solutions like Datadog and log correlation.
- Familiarity with security protocols, including exposure to ** identifies**.
- Experience using version control systems such as Git, including branching workflows.
- Strong analytical abilities and the curiosity to dig deep into incident cause.
- Clear gestures in technical communication, able to explain issues to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice-to-Have
- Direct experience in banking/fintech systems or regulated services.
- Working within the financial sector’s software landscape.
- Certification in ITIL processes or Observability-driven monitoring.
- Experience with ETL/orchestration tools, SVarovation workloads for banking applications.
- Third-party supplier/offshore engagements in supporting backgrounds.
