Application Support Engineer (eTrading Production Support)
Location: London
Working Pattern: 50% office-based (initially 100% onsite until fully up to speed)
Contract Length: 6 Months (inside IR35)
Start Date: 14 September (cannot start earlier)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Application Support Engineer to join a high-performing eTrading Production Support team within a global financial markets environment. The team provides critical support for Rates and Credit electronic trading platforms, supporting complex, business-critical applications across a global infrastructure spanning London, New York, Singapore, Tokyo, Montreal and Mumbai. The role supports more than 800 Windows and Linux servers and numerous electronic trading venues in a follow-the-sun operating model.
This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, production support experience, and stakeholder management skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the stability, performance, and availability of trading systems while working closely with traders, developers, infrastructure teams, external vendors, and business stakeholders.
Strong communication skills are essential, as the role involves regular interaction with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a fast-paced production environment.

Shift Pattern & On-Call
- Early Shift: 07:00 – 15:30/16:00
- Late Shift: 09:30 – 18:00/19:00
Additional Support Requirements
- 1 in 8 weekend support rota
- Participation in on-call support arrangements
- Occasional out-of-hours work required for deployments, upgrades and production incidents
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day production support activities, ensuring maximum platform availability and stability.
- Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve incidents across business-critical eTrading platforms.
- Perform root cause analysis and drive permanent fixes for recurring issues.
- Support and maintain Windows and Linux-based application environments.
- Coordinate with development, infrastructure, market vendors and business users to resolve production issues efficiently.
- Manage change, release and deployment activities, ensuring adherence to operational standards.
- Improve platform resilience, reliability, performance and observability.
- Develop and maintain documentation, operational procedures and knowledge-sharing materials.
- Participate in automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency.
- Support connectivity with trading venues and external market infrastructure.
- Take ownership of assigned applications and technologies, becoming a subject matter expert within the team.

Required Skills & Experience
Production Support
- Extensive experience supporting business-critical production applications.
- Experience operating within a 2nd/3rd line application support or production support environment.
- Strong incident management and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proven ability to manage issues through to resolution while communicating effectively with stakeholders.
Operating Systems
- Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting experience.
- Strong Windows Server support experience.
- Experience analysing:
- CPU utilisation
- Memory consumption
- Storage performance
- Network and NIC metrics
- Operating system performance data
Key Skills
- Networking: TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, VPN/Stunnel, Connectivity
- Monitoring/Obs: Splunk, Geneos, Grafana, Dynatrace
- DevOps: Jenkins, Git, Bitbucket, Artifactory
- Databases: Oracle, SQL Server
