Applications Engineer – Metrology & 3D Scanning
Travel: Approximately 30–50% across the UK, with occasional international travel
Salary: £35,000 - £47,000 base + £6,000 car allowance + bonus
We are supporting a leading provider of advanced manufacturing and digital engineering technologies with the appointment of an Applications Engineer specialising in metrology and 3D scanning.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing role where you will install, support and train users on a range of advanced 3D scanning and inspection systems across the UK and Ireland.
You will work closely with both customers and internal sales teams, delivering product demonstrations, technical training and ongoing application support. The role will suit someone who enjoys combining engineering expertise with customer interaction and practical problem-solving.
The role
You will work with a range of structured-light scanners, handheld laser scanners, CT systems and inspection software, supporting customers across industries including aerospace, automotive, medical, consumer products and advanced manufacturing.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering technical training to new and experienced users
- Installing and commissioning metrology and 3D scanning systems
- Providing technical support and troubleshooting
- Supporting servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance
- Delivering customer demonstrations in pre-sales and post-sales environments
- Helping customers optimise the performance of their systems
- Interpreting engineering and manufacturing challenges and recommending effective solutions
- Working closely with sales, logistics and marketing teams
- Supporting exhibitions, industry events and customer case studies
- Travelling to customer sites across the UK and occasionally overseas
- Representing the business professionally during customer meetings and technical presentations

What we are looking for
You will ideally have a degree, apprenticeship or equivalent experience in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Product Design
- Quality Engineering
- Metrology
- Precision Engineering
- A related technical discipline
You should also have experience in some of the following areas:
- Metrology or dimensional inspection
- 3D scanning systems
- CMM systems or CMM programming
- Inspection software such as ZEISS INSPECT, PolyWorks, Control X or similar
- CAD software
- Engineering drawings and technical specifications
- GD&T
- MSA and Gauge R&R
- FAIR or ISIR documentation
- Reverse engineering
- CNC machining
- Injection moulding
- Additive manufacturing or prototyping
Experience with systems or technologies from ZEISS, GOM, Hexagon, FARO, Creaform, Nikon, Artec, Keyence, Mitutoyo, Aberlink or similar manufacturers would be advantageous.

About you
You will be:
- Confident delivering technical demonstrations, training or workshops
- Comfortable presenting to individuals and groups
- Customer-focused with strong communication skills
- Able to explain complex technical subjects clearly
- Practical, hands-on and solutions-focused
- Comfortable working independently at customer sites
- Able to work collaboratively within a small technical team
- Willing to travel regularly
- In possession of a full UK driving licence
