This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Applied Research Scientist (Machine Visibility) based in United Kingdom.
This is a unique opportunity to pioneer research in the emerging field of machine visibility, exploring how AI systems, search crawlers, and autonomous agents interact with the modern web. As the first dedicated research specialist in this domain, you will build the research function from the ground up while working with one of the industry's largest datasets of web crawling behavior. You will design original studies, develop scalable research infrastructure, and generate insights that influence both product strategy and the broader technology ecosystem. The role combines large-scale data science, applied research, and strategic collaboration in a highly autonomous, remote-first environment. Your work will be published under your name, helping establish thought leadership in a rapidly evolving area of AI and web technologies. This position is ideal for researchers who enjoy transforming complex datasets into impactful discoveries with real-world applications.
Accountabilities
- Build and maintain the research infrastructure required to organize, clean, and analyze large-scale web crawling and machine interaction datasets.
- Design and execute original research projects from hypothesis development through methodology, statistical analysis, and publication.
- Develop new data collection processes to expand research capabilities and answer emerging questions related to AI crawlers and machine visibility.
- Analyze the behavior of search crawlers, AI bots, and autonomous agents while identifying trends across evolving machine ecosystems.
- Produce research outputs ranging from short data-driven reports to comprehensive flagship studies published under your own authorship.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research findings into actionable insights that support product development, business strategy, and market positioning.
- Continuously monitor developments in AI search, web standards, structured data, and machine-readable technologies to inform future research priorities.
- Leverage modern AI tools to accelerate data analysis, synthesis, experimentation, and research workflows.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
