Job Title: Applied Scientist (Generative AI) – Alexa International Tech Team
The Opportunity
The Alexa International Tech (AIT) team is seeking a passionate, talented, and inventive Applied Scientist with expertise in deep learning to develop cutting-edge Generative AI (GenAI) technologies. Focus areas include:
- Large Language Models (LLMs)
- Multimodal systems
- Speech synthesis with natural, expressive, (multilingual) culturally relevant outputs
ubicada Work will integrate breakthrough research and large-scale applications, impacting hundreds of millions of customers globally. This role bridges speech AI, LLMs, and multimodal systems to shape Alexa’s sound and interactions across markets.
Key Responsibilities
Your work will include:
Research & Development
- Collaborate to design and implement new algorithms/multimodal models for speech generation.
- Leverage Amazon's resources (data, Cloud infrastructure) to build ML models delivering natural, expressive, and globally adaptive speech.
- Prototype, test, and iterate novel techniques, then transition successful models into production.
- Conduct experiments, summarize findings, and help shape the technical vision of the team.

Production Deployment
- Partner with engineering teams to optimize production quality.
- Support research results’ communication across stakeholders (e.g., product managers).
Knowledge Sharing & Leadership
- Share insights at academic conferences and within Amazon’s IP system.
- Mentor junior scientists and guide technical discussions via paper reviews and scientific discussions.
A Day in the Life
Your tasks will include:
- Reviewing model performance metrics and experimenting on architectures.
- Collaborating with software engineers on large-scale deployments.
- Aligning R&D with product teams and customer feedback.
- Contributing to internal knowledge-sharing forums (e.g., meetings, brainstorming).
- Seeing your innovations impact conversational AI experiences in markets worldwide.

Basic Qualifications
Must meet the following requirements:
- PhD in CS, CE, ML, or relevant discipline
- OR Master’s degree with 10+ years’ industry experience in the field.
- Track record of publications/patents, including:
- Peer-reviewed top-tier conference/journal contributions.
- Prior research translating to real-world business impact.
- Proficiency in (at least) one of these languages: Python, Java, C++, or related.
- Hands-on expertise in any of these areas:
- Algorithms/data structures
- Parsing
- Numerical optimization
- Distributed data mining
- High-performance computing
Preferred Qualifications
Nice to have:
- Strong familiarity with Unix/Linux.
- Proven experience in professional software development.
