About the Team
You'll be joining the team leading Entrust’s Identity portfolio (previously Onfido), an AI-powered digital identity solution. Our technology helps businesses verify real identities using machine learning, enabling secure remote customer onboarding.
By assessing government-issued identity documents and facial biometrics using state-of-the-art machine learning, we provide companies with assurance needed to operate securely while allowing people to access services quickly and safely.
Our Applied Scientist team is made up of about 20 machine learning scientists and is supported by an ML Ops team that provides:
- Advanced tooling (including AWS, Encord, Ray, PyTorch Lightning, and Weights & Biases)
- Cutting-edge research support

The Applied Science team works closely with product engineering to deploy models and serve our worldwide customer base.
Position Overview
We are looking for an Applied Scientist II to design and train cutting-edge machine learning models related to digital identities. The role offers opportunities to tackle problems in deepfake detection, bias mitigation, document understanding, anomaly detection, and efficient ML.
Key Responsibilities:
- Push the frontier of research in deepfake detection, bias mitigation, fraud/anomaly detection, face matching, document understanding, and efficient on-device ML.
- Publish research in leading national and international conferences and scientific journals.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to improve identity-focused solutions.
- Deploy and improve ML models globally.
Representative Work Highlights:
- Implement bias-mitigation strategies to create fair face-matching and deepfake-detection models.
- Develop and benchmark large-scale vision-language models for document extraction.
- Train a multi-modal document understanding model from synthetic data.
- Optimize inference latency in LoRA adapters/PEFT/Triton.
- Profile and improve model training speed on multiple GPUs.
- Create large-scale datasets for deepfake detection.
- Experiment with multimodal models to detect fraud.

Candidate Qualifications
You may be a strong fit for this role if you:
- Have strong experience in machine learning and computer vision.
- Show proof of successfully delivering high-performance ML-driven products.
- Have a deep understanding of machine learning theory.
- Demonstrated expertise in Python and PyTorch.
- Are passionate about building fair and cutting-edge ML solutions.
Junior candidates may also demonstrate:
- Technical experience in areas such as:
- Face matching,
- Bias mitigation,
- Anomaly detection,
- Document understanding, or
- On-device ML.
- Publications in top-tier machine learning conferences.
- Experience optimizing distributed training code.
Working Location
This hybrid role is based in our London, UK office, requiring three in-office days per week.
