Applied Scientist - LLM, Alexa
Applied Scientist-Role (Natural Language Processing and LLMs)
Alexa is seeking an Applied Scientist with a strong expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Large Language Models (LLMs) to enhance state-of-the-art conversational systems.
About the Role
In this position, you will work closely with a team of scientists training the Large Language Models that underpin the Alexa stack, as well as engineers deploying these systems in production environments. You'll take ownership of end-to-end solutions—from conception and research all the way through implementation and deployment—empowering conversational assistants to better integrate tools, extract diverse information sources, and enable advanced reasoning for Alexa's global customer base.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop advanced and innovative algorithms to address the challenges of conversational assistants, bridging the gap between research and practical implementation.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers to research, design, and implement novel NLP models, architecture frameworks, and representations for processing natural language.
- Analyze customer behaviour data to define and refine metrics that drive actionable improvements in user experience.
- Present research findings and insights through written reports, technical publications, and presentations—to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- Embrace an agile mindset: combining scientific expertise with execution skills to deliver high-quality solutions in production settings.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
