As MEI grows, we’re seeking motivated individuals to join our team in Scotland as Apprentice Electricians or Adult Trainee Electricians. The Role
You’ll train to become a qualified electrician while working directly with experienced colleagues on electrical systems: installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting.
Your Training Journey
- Enrolled in a Modern Apprenticeship (or tailored training programme for adults) aligned with industry standards.
- Guidance from certified mentors every step of the way.
- Accreditation towards a SCQF Level 7 Award in Electrical Installations.
- Hands-on experience in workshop and site-based settings.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with electrical installations, repairs, and maintenance on marine and industrial projects.
- Learn to fit wiring systems, control panels, and related equipment.
- Contribute to fault-finding, testing, and diagnosing electrical issues.
- Help prepare tools, materials, and equipment.
- Follow strict H&S protocols to maintain safe projects.
- Support site surveys and customer installations when needed.
- Develop skills interpreting technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
About You
We search for ambitious, hands-on teammates who want to grow in electrical engineering. You should ideally have:
- A passion for electrical work and a desire to qualify.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a willingness to learn.
- Teamwork mindset and follow-through with instructions.
- Good attention to detail and integrity in work.
- Motivation, reliability, and work ethic.
- Effective communication skills (key for customer and team interactions).
An adult trainee alternative is open to applicants with practical/engineering experience who lack formal qualifications—no need for prior electrical exposure.
Requirements:
- For school leavers: National 5s / Highers (or equivalent) preferred in Maths, Physics Technology, or Engineering (e.g., National 5 Engineering: Mechanical, Electrical, Fabrication considered as credible alternatives).
- For adult trainees: Proven interest and basic technical an aptitude is our standout consideration—just bring willingness to upskill.
- Ability to travel occasionally (locally or internationally, as project-related).
