Job Summary
About the Role
Taylor Wimpey takes part in the National House-Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job scheme, where our sites are independently assessed by the NHBC across 28 different standards. We are committed to providing a safe place for our employees and sub-contractors and maintaining high standards of environmental management.
Trades and labour are the backbone of our build process. We build over 15,000 homes a year and are now looking to grow our directly employed trade’s teams. As an apprentice bricklayer, you will be involved in new build homes from start to finish. Your work will include:
- Reading drawings to understand project requirements
- Setting out the first row of bricks, ensuring straight and level courses
- Learning and applying mortar mix and application techniques
- Shaping, cutting, and trimming bricks as needed
- Being aware of health and safety standards, including working at height and on-site requirements
- Ensuring all work complies with standards and safety procedures
Primary Responsibilities
- Measuring work areas and setting out the first row of bricks and damp courses
- Mixing mortar
- Laying bricks while applying mortar with a trowel
- Shaping, trimming bricks
- Ensuring work aligns with level standards
- Attending college on day release to complete relevant coursework and exams
Experience, Qualifications & Technical Requirements
Essential Criteria
- Maths and English GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications)
- The ability to work in a well-organised, accurate, and precise manner
- Strong awareness of safety issues, especially when working at height
- The ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with other tradespeople
- Basic knowledge of property construction and standards
- A valid or attainable CSCS Card
- The ability to travel to college, and various construction sites across the region (note that transportation may require personal vehicles)
