Job Description

We are looking for an Apprentice to join our Building Surveying team in Cambridge. You will work under the close supervision of senior colleagues, and the role requires sound logic, analytical skills, and excellent communication to meet client and project deadlines.

Apprenticeship Overview

As part of the programme, you will work towards a BSc (Hons) Building Surveying with UCEM or Anglia Ruskin University. Upon successful degree completion and accumulative experience, you will then sit the Assessment of Professional Competency (APC) set by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

During the apprenticeship, dedicated study days will be provided, along with access to online and blended learning tools.

Job Responsibilities

Apprentices may gain exposure to the following tasks, dependent on project stage and instructional work:

  • Assist with measured surveys to produce plans and details
  • Contribute to condition surveys, schedules of condition, and mass data collection
  • Snagging surveys alongside senior staff on-site
  • Support senior surveyors in design/project work, preparation of specifications, and reviewing preliminaries, materials, and workmanship
  • Assist with planning and listed building applications
  • Help organize and document design and client meetings
  • Contribute to project programmes
  • Undertake viability studies and coordination tasks

Qualifications and Requirements

Ideal Candidate Profile:

No prior experience is necessary, but we seek school leavers with:

  • At least 96 UCAS points (or equivalent)
  • Minimum Grade 4/5 (C) in Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent)
  • Proven interest in a career in Building Surveying and the Built Environment
  • Strong logical reasoning, problem-solving, and organisational skills
  • Commitment to lifelong learning through on-the-job training
  • Abilities to work remotely/hybrid
  • ** Ability to collaborate effectively in teams**
  • Practical adaptability and enthusiasm

Language and Soft Skills:

  • Proficiency in English, with excellent communication abilities.

Additional Information

  • Early applications encouraged (CVs are reviewed on a rolling basis)
  • Candidates are expected to provide predicted/obtained grades and a covering letter
  • Mandatory UK/Irish citizenship/residency required (no visa sponsorship available)
