Apprentice Chef

Location: Glasgow, G3 8YW Pay Rate: £28,084 per year Hours: 40 Contractual Requirements: Candidates must be aged 18+ and work full-time.

About The Role

We’re seeking an ambitious Apprentice Chef to join our team in Glasgow, delivering exceptional dining experiences on a 40-hour-per-week basis.

As an Apprentice Chef, you’ll gain hands-on experience in a supportive kitchen environment while progressing towards qualification as either a Production Chef L2 or Production Chef L3. No prior experience is required—full training will be provided as part of the apprenticeship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating exceptional food experiences by preparing, cooking, and presenting dishes to a consistently high standard.
  • Championing food safety and kitchen excellence—maintaining outstanding hygiene, cleanliness, and safe working practices.
  • Bringing menus to life by preparing ingredients and dishes to specification while adhering to Levy’s quality standards.
  • Supporting sustainable kitchen practices, including minimising food waste.
  • Working efficiently in a team environment, collaborating during busy service periods.
  • Staying calm under pressure and adapting to changing menus or service demands.
  • Ensuring a clean, well-organised workspace that is welcoming and functional.
  • Acting as a role model for new team members through respectful support and encouragement.

Ideal Apprentice Traits

  • Experience in a professional kitchen (preferred but not mandatory—training will be provided).
  • Strong foundation in kitchen operations, food safety, and quality standards.
  • A Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Pride in knife skills and food preparation, with keen attention to presentation and quality.
  • Ability to organise and manage their section efficiently, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Understanding of allergen management and dietary requirements.
  • Genuine passion for food and a desire to learn and develop.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure, remain calm, and maintain professional standards.
  • Dependability, punctuality, and proactive attitude.
  • Willingness to learn from experienced chefs and embrace growth opportunities.
  • Commitment to sustainability and responsible food production.
  • Proven ability to manage a section (SEC consists of OVO Hydro, SEC Centre, and SEC Armadillo venues).
