Requirements and Responsibilities
- Self-motivated learner: Proactively develop technical skills in highways and transportation, capable of independent study and task execution
- Field engagement: Undertake site visits and stakeholder liaison
- Technical design proficiency: Ensure accurate design drawings aligned with industry standards
- Technical skills:
- Proficient in relevant software packages
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Logical and structured approach to task completion
- Analytical acumen: Familiarity and flair for data analysis
- Team-oriented mindset: Balance individual approach with collaborative effort
Funding Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for apprenticeship funding, applicants must:

Hold or be willing to obtain:
- A GCSE-level C/equivalent in Maths and English
- Original qualification certificates (must be available)
- If applicable, commit to completing these via assessments within the apprenticeship

Be unrelated in subject content to any qualifications held at equivalent or higher levels than the role

Not attended another funded apprenticeship, further/ higher education programme or full-time education

Hold the right to work and study in England, being either:
- A citizen within the European Economic Area (EEA) with three years of prior residency in the EEA or UK
- A non-EEA citizen with UK residence permission (not for education purposes) and three years’ residency prior to starting the apprenticeship

About Us
Seeking two hardworking, motivated apprentices who demonstrate drive and determination regardless of age, experience, or prior qualifications (minimum 16 years old and not in full-time education). Successful candidates will receive:
- Paid work experience
- Nationally recognised qualifications
- Underpinned collaboration with industry knowledgeable support staff
This role involves shaping highways infrastructure and community wellness by executing meaningful highway projects—from scheming starter points through to full project completion. Apprentices are central to this lifecycle: scoping options, designing feasible solutions, procurement processes, on-site construction teams, and delivery accountability. Becoming part of an expanding in-house design team here means a supportive, collaborative work environment grounded in mutual respect and a commitment to community needs.
Within a diverse team (including design team leads, principal engineers, senior/graduate engineers, technicians) of ~30 professionals encompassing street lighting, traffic management orders (TMOs), planned asset upkeep and vehicle crossovers, this role offers a broad scope of learning and participatory problem-solving.
