Compliance Risk Officer Apprenticeship

About the Role

  • Provide support to the Head of Compliance.
  • Work with the Head of Compliance and Head of Operations to provide compliance and risk support to the business.

Apprenticeship

  • Complete an apprenticeship for the role of compliance and risk officer including:
    • Providing relatively straightforward support and advice to the business on their specific area(s) of expertise e.g. financial crime, training and competence, fraud.
    • Working with the business on specific problems that emerge.
    • Analysing data, maintaining records and producing reports.
    • Working on review and audits to check that policies are being correctly applied.

Risk and Compliance

  • Perform risk and/or compliance checks and reviews as directed by line managers to determine whether established protocols are being followed and where improvements can be made.
  • Identify and analyse risk and compliance issues within an organisation.
  • Undertake risk analysis to identify areas where risk can be mitigated to ensure organisations are fully compliant.

Research, Reporting, and Communication

  • Prepare information in the form of reports for stakeholders within agreed deadlines.
  • Undertake compliance and risk research activities under the guidance of managers or senior leaders.
  • Support with regulatory correspondence and requests for information.

Implementing Compliance Processes

  • Embed risk and compliance processes and controls to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Contribute to embedding a culture of compliance within an organisation or organisations.
  • Maintain organisational compliance and risk documentation and policies.

  • Deliver risk and compliance projects as and when required by managers or senior leaders.
  • Use digital technology advancements in the management of risk and compliance.

Training and Development

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

Course contents:

  • Implement legal and regulatory framework requirements.
  • Deliver risk and compliance services to stakeholders using organisational systems and processes.
  • Plan and organise workloads to meet individual and team performance targets.
  • Identify ways to reduce and mitigate incidents of non-compliance.
  • Escalate compliance and risk issues where appropriate in line with organisational procedures.
  • Manage records in order to meet audit requirements of the organisation.
  • Produce evidence-based reports and management information for stakeholders considering visualisation techniques when presenting data.
  • Select and use communication methods applicable to the audience and circumstances, for example, presentations, phone, face to face, email, virtual meetings.
  • Communicate about products with customers, colleagues or stakeholders in different styles, for example visually, verbally, written, using e-comms.
  • Build and maintain working relationships.
  • Identify own training needs and seek feedback to improve performance and service delivered.
  • Apply continuous improvement techniques when delivering improved compliance outcomes and mitigating risks.
  • Record information electronically and make use of available technology, for example Management Information Systems (MIS), spreadsheets, presentation software, word processing, email, virtual communication.
  • Handle data safely and securely and share information in compliance with data protection legislation and organisational policy.

Training schedule:

An apprenticeship includes regular training in the workplace and with Skills Edge Training. You will be provided regularly off-the-job training time to complete your training and studies.

  • Equal to Level 3 (A level)

  • You will achieve the Compliance and Risk Officer Apprenticeship Standard:
    • Develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours of successful Compliance and Risk Officers
  • Regular seminars
  • All seminars recorded and available on demand
  • Interactive chat, forums and class notebooks for real-time support and assistance from experienced financial services professionals
  • Completion of the ICA Certificate in Compliance

Desirable qualifications:

  • GCSE in:
    • Maths and English (grade 4/C or above)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
