The Engineering Tutor Assessor (Trainee)
The Engineering Tutor Assessor (Trainee) will develop into a highly skilled apprenticeship tutor and assessor specialising in engineering programmes.
You will receive structured training, mentoring, and professional qualifications while supporting apprentices throughout their learning journey.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Support the delivery of engineering and motor vehicle apprenticeship programmes
- Deliver classroom, workshop, online, and workplace-based training
- Prepare engaging learning sessions and practical demonstrations
- Support learners to develop knowledge, skills, and behaviours
- Deliver Functional Skills support where appropriate
- Adapt teaching to meet individual learner needs
Assessment
- Carry out workplace assessments
- Observe apprentices in the workplace
- Review portfolio evidence
- Complete progress reviews
- Assess assignments
- Support apprentices towards Gateway and End-Point Assessment
- Maintain accurate assessment records
Learner Support
- Build positive relationships with apprentices
- Motivate learners to achieve
- Identify learners requiring additional support
- Promote safeguarding, Prevent, British Values, and wellbeing
- Support learner attendance and engagement
Employer Engagement
- Visit employers regularly
- Build positive working relationships
- Provide progress updates
- Support workforce development discussions
- Promote ESTAR's high standards of customer service
Quality & Compliance
- Maintain compliant learner records
- Follow apprenticeship funding rules
- Participate in standardisation meetings
- Participate in observations of teaching and learning
- Contribute towards quality improvement activities
- Support Ofsted inspections and internal audits

Course contents
- Identify, interpret, and apply relevant legal, governmental, or industry regulations affecting the organisation.
- Communicate using appropriate methods (verbal, written, visual) to influence internal and external stakeholders, using appropriate questioning techniques such as open questions, leading questions.
- Identify, collect, and analyse relevant quality data using appropriate tools and techniques such as Pareto analysis, statistical methods, and trending analysis.
- Apply methods and tools to improve the quality performance of processes, products, and services such as production control plans, standardised work, use of failure modes and effects.
- Identify, analyse, and prioritise quality-specific risks and opportunities. Support the development, implementation, and effectiveness of resulting actions.
- Plan and conduct system, product, or process audits.
- Assess the effectiveness of the measurement systems using tools such as Measurement Systems Analysis.
- Identify requirements from technical documents, commercial input, or stakeholder statements and converting to definitions that can drive the organisation’s processes.
- Identify gaps in process performance and develop improvement plans to close gaps.
- Apply structured problem solving including identification, definition, measurement, analysis, improvement, and control methods and tools.
- Communicate organisational quality strategy to all levels of the organisation.
- Identify who the internal and external stakeholders are and their current and optimal positions (such as hostile, help it work, opposed, uncooperative, indifferent, hesitant, enthusiastic support) required to support quality-related activities.

GCSE in:
English and Maths (grade 4/C or above)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Essential:
- Relevant engineering experience
- Occupational competence
- Passion for developing people
- Excellent communication skills
- Organised and professional
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Willingness to travel
Desirable:
- Previous mentoring experience
- Apprenticeship experience (as an apprentice or in the field)
- Teaching experience
- Engineering experience
- Functional Skills knowledge
None of the desirable criteria are essential as full training will be provided.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Relevant Level 3 (or above) vocational qualification in Engineering
- GCSE English and maths (Grade C/4 or above)
